## What it does

This skill covers wiring your own agent to a Base44 app's sandbox and working there directly: shell commands, file reads and edits, code search, directory listings. Base44 provides the sandbox; the agent and the model are yours. Any MCP-capable client will do, and the examples use Claude.

There are two transports. A web agent goes through claude.ai with the Base44 MCP connector — that is the ordinary claude.ai chat, not Claude on the web. A local agent can register the same MCP server, or drive the sandbox through `base44 sandbox` subcommands. Same tools, same error codes, shorter names: `read_file` becomes `sandbox read`, `list_directory` becomes `sandbox ls`, `run_command` becomes `sandbox run`. The MCP endpoint is `https://app.base44.com/mcp`.

Access splits by scope. Reads — `read_file`, `grep`, `list_directory`, `list_user_apps` — ride on `apps:read`, which you get by default. File writes, `run_command` and `create_checkpoint` need `sandbox:write`, and that one is not granted automatically. So if reads work but the mutating calls come back `NOT_AUTHORIZED`, your token is missing it: reconnect and grant sandbox access. Every tool wants a required `appId`. Inside the Base44 editor, the “Send to Coding Agent” button hands you a ready-made prompt for a local agent or for a claude.ai chat.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add base44/skills --skill base44-remote-dev -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/base44-remote-dev/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add base44/skills --skill base44-remote-dev -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add base44/skills --skill base44-remote-dev -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install base44/skills base44-remote-dev
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add base44/skills --skill base44-remote-dev -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/base44/skills --path skills/base44-remote-dev
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add base44/skills --skill base44-remote-dev -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/base44/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/base44-remote-dev/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- edit Base44 app files from your own agent instead of the web editor
- run a build or install packages inside the sandbox
- locate the component you need before touching it
- save a restore point in version history after a chunk of work
- wire an external connector into the app

## Example prompts
- Connect to Base44 over MCP and map the app for `appId <APP_ID>`: `list_directory` on the root at depth 2, then read `src/App.jsx`
- On `appId <APP_ID>`, change the homepage heading in `src/pages/Home.jsx` from “Welcome” to “Welcome back” — show the diff with `dry_run` first, then apply
- Create a checkpoint for `appId <APP_ID>` named “nav edits”

# Remotely develop a Base44 app over MCP

Connect your own coding agent to a Base44 app's sandbox and develop in it
directly — run commands, read and edit files, grep, list directories — while
Base44 supplies the sandbox and you supply the agent and the LLM.

This works with any MCP-capable client. The examples use Claude Code.

> **Easiest start:** in the Base44 app editor, click **Send to Coding Agent**. For a local agent
> it gives you a ready-to-paste prompt (which fetches a README and drives the sandbox over MCP or
> the `base44 sandbox` CLI — Section 10);
> for the web it gives a prompt to paste into a **claude.ai** chat (with the Base44 MCP connector)
> plus an **Open Claude** button. The button is the discovery surface — the rest of this skill is
> the reference.

> **Two transports:** web agents use **claude.ai** with the Base44 **MCP connector** (Sections
> 1–9) — note this is the regular claude.ai chat, *not* Claude Code on the web (`claude.ai/code`),
