# bailian-web-search

This skill picks the search path for CLI bl: the model's built-in search or Bailian MCP. Useful when you work with Alibaba Bailian and keep mixing up keys.

## What it does

The skill inspects the active profile and the `base_url`. If the profile is `token-plan`, or the host matches `token-plan.<region>.maas.aliyuncs.com`, search runs through the model itself via the Responses API. Anything else goes to Bailian MCP with `bl search web`.

One thing to know: Token Plan keys do not authorize MCP search. Ask for MCP anyway and the skill will refuse, then explain why — a good reason to check which key is active. The profile check needs no auth and runs as `bl config show --output json`; the search itself needs a working key and an activated WebSearch MCP.

The fallback to model-native search fires once and only for three failure classes: auth refusal, MCP not activated (404 with the not-opened marker), and transport errors. A missing `--query`, rate limits or an empty but successful result set will not trigger it — those come back as they are. You need the `bl` binary on the machine and the `../bailian-protocol/SKILL.md` protocol file next to the skill; without it the skill stops and asks you to run `bl skill init`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/bailian-web-search/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install modelstudioai/cli bailian-web-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/modelstudioai/cli --path skills/bailian-web-search
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add modelstudioai/cli --skill bailian-web-search -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/modelstudioai/cli/tree/HEAD/skills/bailian-web-search/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick between model-native search and Bailian MCP based on the active key
- keep a Token Plan key away from a path it cannot authorize
- debug an MCP search failing with 404 or 405
- fall back to model-native search once instead of retrying in a loop
- tell an auth failure apart from a bad command argument

## Example prompts
- search for recent Anthropic Bailian news
- why does `bl search web` return an auth error?
- check which profile is active and pick the web search path

# Bailian web search routing (`bailian-web-search`)

**CRITICAL — Before executing, MUST read the shared protocol in [`../bailian-protocol/SKILL.md`](../bailian-protocol/SKILL.md): Provider selection and consent, Version & updates (pre-flight checklist), Call attribution (every Agent `bl` command), Setup & auth, and CLI errors: report an issue. If that protocol file is missing, stop and run `bl skill init`; do not guess auth/consent.**

**Call attribution:** Examples below and in `reference/` stay bare `bl …`. When running a command, wrap it with [`bailian-protocol` → Call attribution](../bailian-protocol/SKILL.md#call-attribution-mandatory-for-every-agent-bl-command) (bash or PowerShell). One sample for this skill (`BAILIAN_SKILL_NAME=bailian-web-search`; replace `codex` with this host). `bl config` / `bl text chat` are owned by `bailian-cli`.

```bash
BAILIAN_CALLER_TYPE=agent BAILIAN_CALLER_NAME=codex BAILIAN_SKILL_NAME=bailian-web-search BAILIAN_SKILL_VERSION=2.5.0 bl search web --query "阿里云百炼最新功能"
```

> **Scope:** model-aware routing for web search inside Agent-driven `bl` workflows — this skill owns the routing decision only.
> Command flags / usage / examples: Read skill `bailian-cli` reference if installed; else `bl search web --help` / `bl text chat --help` — do not guess flags.
>
> **Install (supported):** `bl skill init`

Token Plan keys do not authorize Bailian MCP search — never route them to `bl search web`.
