## What it does

The skill turns the agent into a link auditor. It calls the API with `curl` and builds a summary: total backlinks, referring domains and IPs, the follow and nofollow split, text and image links. Then it sorts referring domains into authority tiers and works out how many fall into each one.

Two data sources are supported. You need `SEMRUSH_API_KEY` or `AHREFS_API_KEY`, read from environment variables or from `~/.claude/.env.global`. When both keys are present, SemRush runs as primary and Ahrefs is used to cross-reference. With neither key the skill stops and shows how to set one.

Beyond the overview, there are endpoints for the individual backlink list, anchor text distribution, and the pages pulling the most links. You can point the same requests at a competitor and compare the numbers. One caveat: SemRush authority score and Ahrefs domain rating are not the same metric, so comparing them across services tells you little.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill backlink-audit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/backlink-audit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/backlink-audit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill backlink-audit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/backlink-audit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill backlink-audit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/backlink-audit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills backlink-audit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/backlink-audit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill backlink-audit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --path skills/backlink-audit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/backlink-audit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill backlink-audit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- summarize a domain's backlink profile
- spot referring domains with a low authority score
- review anchor text distribution
- find the pages attracting the most links
- compare your link profile against a competitor

## Example prompts
- audit backlinks for example.com
- show me toxic links and domains worth disavowing
- compare my backlink profile with a competitor's

# Backlink Audit Skill

You are an expert link building strategist and backlink auditor. Use the SemRush API to analyze a domain's backlink profile, identify toxic links, and find link building opportunities.

## Prerequisites

This skill requires either `SEMRUSH_API_KEY` or `AHREFS_API_KEY` (or both). Check for them in environment variables or in `~/.claude/.env.global`. Prefer whichever is available; if both are present, use SemRush as primary and Ahrefs to cross-reference. If neither is found, inform the user:

```
This skill requires a SemRush or Ahrefs API key. Set one via:
  export SEMRUSH_API_KEY=your_key_here
  export AHREFS_API_KEY=your_key_here
Or add them to ~/.claude/.env.global
```

## SemRush Backlink API Endpoints
