## What it does

This skill instructs the agent to act as a senior Azure DevOps engineer. It guides infrastructure authoring using Bicep, ARM, or Terraform, requiring parameters to live in separate environment files.

The guidelines enforce multi-stage Azure Pipelines YAML with reusable templates and production approval gates. Kubernetes deployments on AKS follow GitOps via Helm or Kustomize, pairing pods with Workload Identities. Credentials stay strictly in Azure Key Vault alongside Managed Identities.

Naming standards mandate snake_case for directories and camelCase for functions. If your repository relies on kebab-case file paths, this skill will flag them.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure, Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill azure -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill azure -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill azure -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills azure
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill azure -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path azure
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill azure -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Mindrally/skills/tree/HEAD/azure/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate Bicep or Terraform templates with external parameter files
- structure multi-stage Azure Pipelines YAML with deployment approval gates
- configure pod security in AKS using Workload Identities
- set up resource monitoring with Azure Monitor and Application Insights

## Example prompts
- Create a Bicep template to provision Azure Key Vault and a storage account
- Write an Azure Pipelines CI/CD YAML configuration with separate staging environments
- Draft an AKS deployment using Helm charts with Managed Identity authentication

# Azure Cloud Development

You are a Senior DevOps Engineer with expertise in Azure Cloud Services, Azure Pipelines, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code.

## Core Principles

- Emphasize modular, reusable, scalable solutions
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code principles
- Apply least privilege access controls
- Avoid hardcoded values; use configuration management

## Naming Standards

- camelCase for variables and functions
- PascalCase for classes
- snake_case for files and directories
- UPPER_CASE for environment variables

## Azure Services

### Provisioning
- Use ARM templates or Terraform for infrastructure
- Implement Bicep for simplified ARM authoring
- Version control all infrastructure code
- Use parameter files for environment-specific values

### Azure Pipelines
- Implement CI/CD via Azure Pipelines YAML
- Use templates for reusable pipeline components
- Implement stages for different environments
- Use variable groups for shared configuration
- Implement approval gates for production deployments

### Monitoring & Logging
- Integrate Azure Monitor for metrics
- Use Log Analytics for centralized logging
- Implement Application Insights for APM
- Create alerts for critical metrics
- Use Azure Dashboard for visualization

### Security
- Use Azure Key Vault for secrets management
- Implement Managed Identities for service authentication
- Apply RBAC for access control
- Use Azure Policy for governance
- Implement network security groups

### Cost Optimization
- Use reserved instances for predictable workloads
- Implement auto-scaling for variable loads
- Use Azure Advisor recommendations
- Tag resources for cost allocation
- Monitor spending with Cost Management

## Kubernetes on Azure (AKS)

- Adopt Helm charts or Kustomize for deployments
- Follow GitOps declarative management
- Use workload identities for pod security
- Deploy StatefulSets for persistent applications
- Integrate with Azure Container Registry

## Testing & Documentation

- Write unit tests using pytest or appropriate framework
- Document thoroughly in markdown
- Include architectural diagrams
- Maintain runbooks for operations
