## What it does

The skill provides patterns and C# workflows for `Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql` under API version `2023-12-01-preview`. It guides the model through creating server instances, configuring zone redundancy, and setting up storage parameters.

It covers core resources beneath the flexible server hierarchy. That includes creating databases, configuring IP firewall ranges, and tuning engine parameters like `max_connections`. Authentication relies on `Azure.Identity` and `DefaultAzureCredential`.

Be aware that this skill targets only PostgreSQL Flexible Server. Azure Single Server is deprecated and scheduled for retirement, so it is omitted entirely. You will need `AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID` and `AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP` configured in your environment.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure, PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-resource-manager-postgresql-dotnet/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- provision Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server instances in C#
- create PostgreSQL databases with UTF8 encoding
- add firewall rules for specific IP ranges or Azure services
- tune server configurations like max_connections

## Example prompts
- Write C# code to deploy a PostgreSQL Flexible Server with high availability enabled.
- Show how to add a firewall rule to Azure PostgreSQL for subnet 10.0.0.0/24.
- Update the max_connections parameter on our Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server using .NET.

# Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql (.NET)

Azure Resource Manager SDK for managing PostgreSQL Flexible Server deployments.

## Installation

```bash
dotnet add package Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql
dotnet add package Azure.Identity
```

**Current Version**: v1.2.0 (GA)
**API Version**: 2023-12-01-preview

> **Note**: This skill focuses on PostgreSQL Flexible Server. Single Server is deprecated and scheduled for retirement.

## Environment Variables

```bash
AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID=<your-subscription-id>  # Required: Azure subscription ID
AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP=<your-resource-group>  # Required: resource group name
AZURE_POSTGRESQL_SERVER_NAME=<your-postgresql-server>  # Required: PostgreSQL Flexible Server name
AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod  # Required only if DefaultAzureCredential is used in production
```

## Authentication

```csharp
using Azure.Identity;
using Azure.ResourceManager;
using Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql;
using Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql.FlexibleServers;
// Local dev: DefaultAzureCredential. Production: set AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod or AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=<specific_credential>
var credential = new DefaultAzureCredential(
    DefaultAzureCredential.DefaultEnvironmentVariableName
);
// Or use a specific credential directly in production:
// See https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/overview/azure/identity-readme?view=azure-dotnet#credential-classes
// var credential = new ManagedIdentityCredential();
ArmClient client = new ArmClient(credential);
```

## Resource Hierarchy

```
Subscription
└── ResourceGroup
    └── PostgreSqlFlexibleServer              # PostgreSQL Flexible Server instance
        ├── PostgreSqlFlexibleServerDatabase  # Database within the server
        ├── PostgreSqlFlexibleServerFirewallRule # IP firewall rules
        ├── PostgreSqlFlexibleServerConfiguration # Server parameters
        ├── PostgreSqlFlexibleServerActiveDirectoryAdministrator # Entra ID admin
        └── PostgreSqlFlexibleServerVirtualEndpoint # Read replica endpoints
```

## Core Workflows

### 1. Create PostgreSQL Flexible Server

```csharp
using Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql.FlexibleServers;
using Azure.ResourceManager.PostgreSql.FlexibleServers.Models;
ResourceGroupResource resourceGroup = await client
    .GetDefaultSubscriptionAsync()
    .Result
