## What it does

This skill covers management plane operations for Azure Durable Task using C#. It guides agents through the `Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask` library to provision schedulers, register task hubs, and configure retention policies. It does not handle starting orchestrations or sending runtime events, which belong to the data plane package `Microsoft.DurableTask.Client.AzureManaged`.

To execute the generated code, projects require `Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask` alongside `Azure.Identity`. The patterns support both Dedicated SKUs with custom capacity and Consumption serverless tiers, plus IP allowlists for network restrictions. Setup relies on `AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID` and `AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP` environment variables.

Without `Azure.Identity` configured in your environment, calls via `ArmClient` will fail authentication.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-resource-manager-durabletask-dotnet/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- provision a Durable Task Scheduler with Dedicated or Consumption SKU
- create and bind a Task Hub to an existing scheduler in C#
- configure IP allowlists for scheduler network isolation
- scale capacity or delete task hubs using the .NET ARM client

## Example prompts
- Write C# code to provision a Durable Task Scheduler with Consumption SKU in East US
- Show how to create a Task Hub under an existing DurableTaskSchedulerResource
- How do I update capacity and IP allowlist for a Dedicated scheduler in .NET?

# Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask (.NET)

Management plane SDK for provisioning and managing Azure Durable Task Scheduler resources via Azure Resource Manager.

> **⚠️ Management vs Data Plane**
> - **This SDK (Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask)**: Create schedulers, task hubs, configure retention policies
> - **Data Plane SDK (Microsoft.DurableTask.Client.AzureManaged)**: Start orchestrations, query instances, send events

## Installation

```bash
dotnet add package Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask
dotnet add package Azure.Identity
```

**Current Versions**: Stable v1.0.0 (2025-11-03), Preview v1.0.0-beta.1 (2025-04-24)
**API Version**: 2025-11-01

## Environment Variables

```bash
AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID=<your-subscription-id> # Required: Azure subscription ID
AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP=<your-resource-group> # Required: Azure resource group name
AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod  # Required only if DefaultAzureCredential is used in production
AZURE_TENANT_ID=<tenant-id> # For service principal auth (optional)
AZURE_CLIENT_ID=<client-id> # For service principal auth (optional)
AZURE_CLIENT_SECRET=<client-secret> # For service principal auth (optional)
```

## Authentication

```csharp
using Azure.Identity;
using Azure.ResourceManager;
using Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask;
// Local dev: DefaultAzureCredential. Production: set AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod or AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=<specific_credential>
var credential = new DefaultAzureCredential(
    DefaultAzureCredential.DefaultEnvironmentVariableName
);
// Or use a specific credential directly in production:
// See https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/overview/azure/identity-readme?view=azure-dotnet#credential-classes
// var credential = new ManagedIdentityCredential();
var armClient = new ArmClient(credential);
// Get subscription
var subscriptionId = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID");
var subscription = armClient.GetSubscriptionResource(
    new ResourceIdentifier($"/subscriptions/{subscriptionId}"));
```

## Resource Hierarchy

```
ArmClient
└── SubscriptionResource
    └── ResourceGroupResource
        └── DurableTaskSchedulerResource
            ├── DurableTaskHubResource
            └── DurableTaskRetentionPolicyResource
```

## Core Workflow

### 1. Create Durable Task Scheduler

```csharp
using Azure.ResourceManager.DurableTask;
