## What it does

This skill provides Azure CLI commands to build an audit logging foundation. It creates an Azure Log Analytics workspace with a 365-day retention period and activates the SecurityCenterFree solution. It also exports subscription-level Activity Logs to Log Analytics and creates an archive in an Azure Storage Account with 2555 days of retention. It targets standard compliance baselines.

Diagnostic settings cover Key Vault, Azure SQL Database, App Service, and Network Security Groups. To prevent configuration drift, the skill provides Azure Policy assignments using the `DeployIfNotExists` effect. These policies automatically enforce diagnostic logging on new Key Vaults and SQL databases.

Security incident investigation relies on included Kusto (KQL) queries for `SigninLogs` and `AzureActivity`. They detect repeated failed logins, unusual sign-in locations, and risky write or delete operations. You need subscription-level permissions to assign policies and create resource groups. Verify your Azure role assignments before starting.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill azure-monitor-audit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-monitor-audit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-monitor-audit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill azure-monitor-audit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-monitor-audit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill azure-monitor-audit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-monitor-audit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills azure-monitor-audit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-monitor-audit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill azure-monitor-audit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path compliance/auditing/azure-monitor-audit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-monitor-audit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill azure-monitor-audit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- route Azure subscription Activity Logs to a centralized Log Analytics workspace
- configure long-term audit log retention in Azure Storage for 2555 days
- enforce diagnostic logging on Key Vault and Azure SQL with Azure Policy
- identify suspicious sign-ins and administrative changes using KQL queries

## Example prompts
- Set up an Azure Log Analytics workspace and route subscription activity logs to it
- Show me Azure CLI commands to enforce diagnostic settings on Key Vault via Azure Policy
- Give me a KQL query to find failed sign-in attempts in SigninLogs

# Azure Monitor Audit

Audit Azure activity with Monitor, Activity Logs, and Log Analytics for compliance, security, and operational visibility.

## When to Use

- Enabling centralized audit logging across Azure subscriptions
- Meeting compliance requirements for SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, or ISO 27001
- Investigating security incidents or unauthorized activity in Azure
- Setting up alerting on administrative and security events
- Building compliance dashboards and automated evidence collection

## Create Log Analytics Workspace

```bash
# Create resource group for audit resources
az group create \
  --name rg-audit \
  --location eastus
# Create Log Analytics workspace
az monitor log-analytics workspace create \
  --resource-group rg-audit \
  --workspace-name audit-workspace \
  --location eastus \
  --retention-time 365 \
  --sku PerGB2018
# Get workspace ID for later use
WORKSPACE_ID=$(az monitor log-analytics workspace show \
  --resource-group rg-audit \
  --workspace-name audit-workspace \
  --query id -o tsv)
# Enable audit solutions
az monitor log-analytics solution create \
  --resource-group rg-audit \
  --solution-type SecurityCenterFree \
  --workspace audit-workspace
```

## Configure Diagnostic Settings for Subscription Activity Log

```bash
# Export subscription activity log to Log Analytics
az monitor diagnostic-settings subscription create \
  --name activity-log-to-workspace \
  --location global \
  --workspace "$WORKSPACE_ID" \
  --logs '[
    {"category": "Administrative", "enabled": true},
    {"category": "Security", "enabled": true},
    {"category": "ServiceHealth", "enabled": true},
    {"category": "Alert", "enabled": true},
# Also archive to storage account for long-term retention
az storage account create \
