## What it does

This skill provides patterns for using the `com.azure:azure-messaging-eventgrid` Java package (version 4.27.0). It guides the assistant through configuring `EventGridPublisherClient` and its asynchronous counterpart `EventGridPublisherAsyncClient` to publish single messages or batches.

The reference implementation handles both native `EventGridEvent` schemas and the CNCF CloudEvents 1.0 specification. It also contains patterns to parse incoming JSON payloads from webhooks, including handling system notifications like `Microsoft.Storage.BlobCreated`.

Using `DefaultAzureCredentialBuilder` in local development requires setting the `AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS` environment variable.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-eventgrid-java -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-eventgrid-java
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-sdk-java/skills/azure-eventgrid-java
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-java/skills/azure-eventgrid-java/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure synchronous or asynchronous `EventGridPublisherClient`
- publish batch events using CloudEvents 1.0 or native Event Grid schema
- set up authentication via API keys or `DefaultAzureCredential`
- parse incoming JSON payloads into typed event classes

## Example prompts
- Show how to publish batch CloudEvents using Azure Event Grid SDK in Java
- Set up an asynchronous EventGridPublisherAsyncClient with AzureKeyCredential
- Write a parser for incoming BlobCreated webhook payloads using Java SDK

# Azure Event Grid SDK for Java

Build event-driven applications using the Azure Event Grid SDK for Java.

## Installation

```xml
<dependency>
    <groupId>com.azure</groupId>
    <artifactId>azure-messaging-eventgrid</artifactId>
    <version>4.27.0</version>
</dependency>
```

## Client Creation

### EventGridPublisherClient

```java
import com.azure.messaging.eventgrid.EventGridPublisherClient;
import com.azure.messaging.eventgrid.EventGridPublisherClientBuilder;
import com.azure.core.credential.AzureKeyCredential;
// With API Key
EventGridPublisherClient<EventGridEvent> client = new EventGridPublisherClientBuilder()
    .endpoint("<topic-endpoint>")
    .credential(new AzureKeyCredential("<access-key>"))
    .buildEventGridEventPublisherClient();
// For CloudEvents
EventGridPublisherClient<CloudEvent> cloudClient = new EventGridPublisherClientBuilder()
    .endpoint("<topic-endpoint>")
    .credential(new AzureKeyCredential("<access-key>"))
    .buildCloudEventPublisherClient();
```

### With DefaultAzureCredential

```java
import com.azure.core.credential.TokenCredential;
import com.azure.identity.AzureIdentityEnvVars;
import com.azure.identity.DefaultAzureCredentialBuilder;
import com.azure.identity.ManagedIdentityCredentialBuilder;
// Local dev: DefaultAzureCredential. Production: set AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod or AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=<specific_credential>
TokenCredential credential = new DefaultAzureCredentialBuilder()
    .requireEnvVars(AzureIdentityEnvVars.AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS)
    .build();
// Or use a specific credential directly in production:
// See https://learn.microsoft.com/java/api/overview/azure/identity-readme?view=azure-java-stable#credential-classes
// TokenCredential credential = new ManagedIdentityCredentialBuilder().build();
EventGridPublisherClient<EventGridEvent> client = new EventGridPublisherClientBuilder()
    .endpoint("<topic-endpoint>")
    .credential(credential)
    .buildEventGridEventPublisherClient();
```

### Async Client

```java
import com.azure.messaging.eventgrid.EventGridPublisherAsyncClient;
EventGridPublisherAsyncClient<EventGridEvent> asyncClient = new EventGridPublisherClientBuilder()
    .endpoint("<topic-endpoint>")
    .credential(new AzureKeyCredential("<access-key>"))
    .buildEventGridEventPublisherAsyncClient();
```

## Event Types

| Type | Description |
|------|-------------|
| `EventGridEvent` | Azure Event Grid native schema |
| `CloudEvent` | CNCF CloudEvents 1.0 specification |
| `BinaryData` | Custom schema events |

## Core Patterns

### Publish EventGridEvent

```java
import com.azure.messaging.eventgrid.EventGridEvent;
import com.azure.core.util.BinaryData;
EventGridEvent event = new EventGridEvent(
    "resource/path",           // subject
    "MyApp.Events.OrderCreated", // eventType
    BinaryData.fromObject(new OrderData("order-123", 99.99)), // data
    "1.0"                      // dataVersion
);
client.sendEvent(event);
```

### Publish Multiple Events

```java
````
