## What it does

The skill covers sending individual events and batches to Event Grid topics and domains, plus delivery through namespaces. It explains both EventGridEvent and CloudEvent, custom serialization, and authentication with an API key, Microsoft Entra credentials, or a SAS token.

For namespace pull delivery, the examples use EventGridSenderClient and EventGridReceiverClient, with operations to acknowledge, release, or reject received events. Topics and domains use EventGridPublisherClient. Namespace work requires the `Azure.Messaging.EventGrid.Namespaces` package; the topics and domains examples use `Azure.Messaging.EventGrid`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-eventgrid-dotnet -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-eventgrid-dotnet
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-dotnet/skills/azure-eventgrid-dotnet/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- publish a single event to an Event Grid topic
- send a batch of EventGridEvent or CloudEvent messages
- route domain events by setting the Topic property
- receive namespace events and acknowledge processing

## Example prompts
- Show me how to publish an `EventGridEvent` to an Event Grid topic from my .NET project.
- Set up batch publishing of `CloudEvent` messages with `EventGridPublisherClient`.
- Walk me through receiving namespace events with `EventGridReceiverClient`.

## Authentication

### API Key Authentication

```csharp
using Azure;
using Azure.Messaging.EventGrid;
EventGridPublisherClient client = new(
    new Uri("https://mytopic.eastus-1.eventgrid.azure.net/api/events"),
    new AzureKeyCredential("<access-key>"));
```

### Microsoft Entra Token Credential

```csharp
using Azure.Identity;
using Azure.Messaging.EventGrid;
// Local dev: DefaultAzureCredential. Production: set AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=prod or AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS=<specific_credential>
var credential = new DefaultAzureCredential(
    DefaultAzureCredential.DefaultEnvironmentVariableName
);
// Or use a specific credential directly in production:
// See https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/overview/azure/identity-readme?view=azure-dotnet#credential-classes
// var credential = new ManagedIdentityCredential();
EventGridPublisherClient client = new(
    new Uri("https://mytopic.eastus-1.eventgrid.azure.net/api/events"),
    credential);
```

### SAS Token Authentication

```csharp
string sasToken = EventGridPublisherClient.BuildSharedAccessSignature(
    new Uri(topicEndpoint),
    DateTimeOffset.UtcNow.AddHours(1),
    new AzureKeyCredential(topicKey));
var sasCredential = new AzureSasCredential(sasToken);
