## What it does

The skill documents the `com.azure:azure-communication-common` package and its classes. It walks through `CommunicationTokenCredential`, `CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions`, and the identifier types: `CommunicationUserIdentifier`, `PhoneNumberIdentifier`, `MicrosoftTeamsUserIdentifier`, `UnknownIdentifier`.

Entra ID gets its own section. You get `InteractiveBrowserCredentialBuilder` wired with `clientId`, `tenantId`, `redirectUrl`, and the `TeamsExtension.ManageCalls` scope. Parsing raw IDs by prefix and checking types with `instanceof` are covered too.

Long-lived clients use proactive refresh: a `Callable<String>` plus `setRefreshProactively(true)`. If that callback cannot return a fresh token, auto-refresh does nothing — worth settling before you commit to an auth design.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-communication-common-java -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-communication-common-java/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-communication-common-java
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-sdk-java/skills/azure-communication-common-java
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-java/skills/azure-communication-common-java/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire shared ACS utilities into a Java project
- keep tokens fresh across long sessions
- parse a raw identifier by its prefix
- tell identifier types apart with instanceof
- set up Entra ID auth for Teams Phone

## Example prompts
- Add the `com.azure:azure-communication-common` dependency and show a `CommunicationTokenCredential` built from a static token.
- Set up proactive token refresh with `CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions` and a refresher callback.
- Parse the string `8:acs:resource-id_user-id` into the right identifier type.

# Azure Communication Common (Java)

Shared authentication utilities and data structures for Azure Communication Services.

## Installation

```xml
<dependency>
    <groupId>com.azure</groupId>
    <artifactId>azure-communication-common</artifactId>
    <version>1.4.0</version>
</dependency>
```

## Key Concepts

| Class | Purpose |
|-------|---------|
| `CommunicationTokenCredential` | Authenticate users with ACS services |
| `CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions` | Configure automatic token refresh |
| `CommunicationUserIdentifier` | Identify ACS users |
| `PhoneNumberIdentifier` | Identify PSTN phone numbers |
| `MicrosoftTeamsUserIdentifier` | Identify Teams users |
| `UnknownIdentifier` | Generic identifier for unknown types |

## CommunicationTokenCredential

### Static Token (Short-lived Clients)

```java
import com.azure.communication.common.CommunicationTokenCredential;
// Simple static token - no refresh
String userToken = "<user-access-token>";
CommunicationTokenCredential credential = new CommunicationTokenCredential(userToken);
// Use with Chat, Calling, etc.
ChatClient chatClient = new ChatClientBuilder()
    .endpoint("https://<resource>.communication.azure.com")
    .credential(credential)
    .buildClient();
```

### Proactive Token Refresh (Long-lived Clients)

```java
import com.azure.communication.common.CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions;
import java.util.concurrent.Callable;
// Token refresher callback - called when token is about to expire
Callable<String> tokenRefresher = () -> {
    // Call your server to get a fresh token
    return fetchNewTokenFromServer();
};
// With proactive refresh
CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions refreshOptions = new CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions(tokenRefresher)
    .setRefreshProactively(true)      // Refresh before expiry
    .setInitialToken(currentToken);    // Optional initial token
CommunicationTokenCredential credential = new CommunicationTokenCredential(refreshOptions);
```

### Async Token Refresh

```java
import java.util.concurrent.CompletableFuture;
// Async token fetcher
Callable<String> asyncRefresher = () -> {
    CompletableFuture<String> future = fetchTokenAsync();
    return future.get();  // Block until token is available
};
CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions options = new CommunicationTokenRefreshOptions(asyncRefresher)
    .setRefreshProactively(true);
CommunicationTokenCredential credential = new CommunicationTokenCredential(options);
```

## Entra ID (Azure AD) Authentication

```java
import com.azure.identity.InteractiveBrowserCredentialBuilder;
import com.azure.communication.common.EntraCommunicationTokenCredentialOptions;
import java.util.Arrays;
import java.util.List;
// For Teams Phone Extensibility
