## What it does

The skill organizes guidance into eight operational categories: troubleshooting, cost optimization, limits, security, configuration, coding patterns, and deployment. It references procedures for BlobFuse2, NFS 3.0, Storage Mover migrations, lifecycle policies, and static site hosting.

Network access is mandatory. The agent retrieves Markdown reference material remotely using `mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch` or falls back to `fetch_webpage`.

Keep scope in mind during setup. The repository authors explicitly restrict this skill to object storage, directing Azure Files, Queues, and Tables to their own separate skill packages.

## Requirements
- Works with: Azure

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-blob-storage -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-blob-storage/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-blob-storage -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-blob-storage -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills azure-blob-storage
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-blob-storage -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --path skills/azure-blob-storage
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-blob-storage -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/azure-blob-storage/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Resolve BlobFuse2 mount failures and container I/O errors
- Configure lifecycle management rules to transition cold objects to archive tiers
- Implement identity-based access control with RBAC and SAS tokens
- Troubleshoot network errors and job status codes in Azure Storage Mover

## Example prompts
- Diagnose why my BlobFuse2 mount is failing with I/O errors on Linux.
- Show best practices for lifecycle management rules moving blobs to the archive tier.
- How do I secure an Azure Blob container using SAS tokens and RBAC?

# Azure Blob Storage Skill

This skill provides expert guidance for Azure Blob Storage. Covers troubleshooting, best practices, decision making, limits & quotas, security, configuration, integrations & coding patterns, and deployment. It combines local quick-reference content with remote documentation fetching capabilities.

## How to Use This Skill

> **IMPORTANT for Agent**: Use the **Category Index** below to locate relevant sections. For categories with line ranges (e.g., `L35-L120`), use `read_file` with the specified lines. For categories with file links (e.g., `[security.md](security.md)`), use `read_file` on the linked reference file

> **IMPORTANT for Agent**: If `metadata.generated_at` is more than 3 months old, suggest the user pull the latest version from the repository. If `mcp_microsoftdocs` tools are not available, suggest the user install it: [Installation Guide](https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/mcp/blob/main/README.md)

This skill requires **network access** to fetch documentation content:
- **Preferred**: Use `mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch` with query string `from=learn-agent-skill`. Returns Markdown.
- **Fallback**: Use `fetch_webpage` with query string `from=learn-agent-skill&accept=text/markdown`. Returns Markdown.
