# axiom-testing

A Swift testing skill that routes each task to the right reference: Swift Testing for unit tests, XCTest for UI tests, plus flaky-test debugging.

## What it does

axiom-testing works as a router, not a single answer sheet. Ask about unit tests and it points to `skills/swift-testing.md` for `@Test`/`#expect` macros and parameterized tests. Async code goes to `skills/testing-async.md`, UI tests and flaky failures to `skills/ui-testing.md`, element queries and test plans to `skills/xctest-automation.md`. Recording UI automation in Xcode 26 has its own branch in `skills/ui-recording.md`.

A comparison table settles the framework question: unit and parameterized tests belong in Swift Testing, UI tests and `XCTMetric` performance runs in XCTest, and App Intents tested through the system need a UI Testing Bundle with XCTest. The skill also covers a fast test architecture without a simulator, `withMainSerialExecutor` and `TestClock` for reliable async, plus `.timeLimit` and `.serialized`.

In the Codex build the auditors are skills: `axiom-analyze-test-failures` and `axiom-audit-testing`. Anything that shells out to builds, tests or simulators needs shell access, so those steps will not run without it. On Claude, bundled tools live at `<plugin-root>/tools/<tool>` when `command -v <tool>` finds nothing.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --skill axiom-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/axiom-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --skill axiom-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --skill axiom-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install CharlesWiltgen/Axiom axiom-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --skill axiom-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --path axiom-codex/skills/axiom-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CharlesWiltgen/Axiom --skill axiom-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/CharlesWiltgen/Axiom/tree/HEAD/axiom-codex/skills/axiom-testing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick Swift Testing or XCTest for a given test
- kill flakiness and race conditions in async tests
- swap `sleep()` for condition-based waiting in UI tests
- speed up the suite by moving logic into a package without a simulator
- migrate existing XCTest cases to Swift Testing

## Example prompts
- write Swift Testing unit tests for this model
- this UI test fails intermittently — find out why it's flaky
- migrate these XCTest cases to Swift Testing

# Testing

**You MUST use this skill for ANY testing-related question, including writing tests, debugging test failures, making tests faster, or choosing between testing approaches.**

**Bundled tools on Claude Code:** if `command -v <tool>` finds nothing (hooks off or `--bare`), use `<plugin-root>/tools/<tool>` in place of the bare name; `<plugin-root>` is two levels above this skill's `Base directory for this skill:` path.
