## What it does

The skill loads an S3 reference into the agent's context: creating and deleting buckets, uploading and downloading objects, copying between buckets, setting metadata and storage classes. A quick-reference table maps each task to an SDK method, so `createBucket()` comes with the matching `waiter().waitUntilBucketExists()` call.

Code samples cover an `S3Client` with a retry policy, `putObject()` with AES256 encryption and the `STANDARD_IA` class, presigned URLs via `S3Presigner`, and large-file transfers through `S3TransferManager`. Multipart uploads get a walkthrough that aborts on failure. The agent is allowed `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, `Bash`, `Glob` and `Grep`, so it can edit your code and run the build.

Two limits bite early. A single PUT caps at 5GB, and multipart parts must be at least 5MB except the last one. Presigned URLs expire after 7 days at most. Bucket names are globally unique across every AWS account, so a collision with someone else's name is a real failure mode, not a theoretical one.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-sdk-java-v2-s3 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-sdk-java-v2-s3 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-sdk-java-v2-s3 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit aws-sdk-java-v2-s3
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-sdk-java-v2-s3 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-java/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-sdk-java-v2-s3 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit/tree/HEAD/plugins/developer-kit-java/skills/aws-sdk-java-v2-s3/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a bucket and wait until it exists
- upload a file with encryption and verify its size via `headObject`
- generate a presigned URL for temporary access
- split a large file into parts and abort the upload on failure
- pick a storage class that matches access frequency

## Example prompts
- show me how to upload a file to S3 with AWS SDK for Java 2.x and encryption
- I need a presigned URL valid for 10 minutes for an object in my bucket
- set up a multipart upload that aborts on failure

# AWS SDK for Java 2.x - Amazon S3

## Overview

Provides patterns for S3 operations: bucket management, object upload/download with multipart support, presigned URLs, S3 Transfer Manager, and S3-specific configurations using AWS SDK for Java 2.x.

## When to Use

- Creating, listing, or deleting S3 buckets with proper configuration
- Uploading or downloading objects from S3 with metadata and encryption
- Working with multipart uploads for large files (>100MB) with error handling
- Generating presigned URLs for temporary access to S3 objects
- Copying or moving objects between S3 buckets with metadata preservation
- Setting object metadata, storage classes, and access controls
- Implementing S3 Transfer Manager for optimized file transfers
- Integrating S3 with Spring Boot applications for cloud storage

## Quick Reference

| Operation | Method | Notes |
|-----------|--------|-------|
| Create bucket | `createBucket()` | Wait with `waiter().waitUntilBucketExists()` |
| Upload object | `putObject()` | Use `RequestBody.fromFile()` |
| Download object | `getObject()` | Streams to file or memory |
| Delete objects | `deleteObjects()` | Batch up to 1000 keys |
| Presigned URL | `presigner.presignGetObject()` | Max 7 days expiration |

### Storage Classes

| Class | Use Case |
|-------|----------|
| `STANDARD` | Frequently accessed data |
| `STANDARD_IA` | Infrequently accessed data |
| `GLACIER` | Long-term archive |
| `INTELLIGENT_TIERING` | Automatic cost optimization |

## Instructions

### 1. Add Dependencies

```xml
<dependency>
    <groupId>software.amazon.awssdk</groupId>
    <artifactId>s3</artifactId>
    <version>2.20.0</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
    <groupId>software.amazon.awssdk</groupId>
    <artifactId>s3-transfer-manager</artifactId>
    <version>2.20.0</version>
</dependency>
```

### 2. Create S3 Client

```java
S3Client s3Client = S3Client.builder()
    .region(Region.US_EAST_1)
    .build();
// With retry logic
S3Client s3Client = S3Client.builder()
    .region(Region.US_EAST_1)
    .overrideConfiguration(b -> b
