## What it does

The skill hands the agent ready-made commands and an order of operations for auditing an AWS account. It opens with `aws sts get-caller-identity` and `aws configure --profile compromised`, then moves into IAM enumeration: users, groups, attached and inline policies, roles. Every step comes with the exact command, so the agent does not have to guess what comes next.

Separate sections cover SSRF against the metadata endpoint `169.254.169.254`, for both IMDSv1 and IMDSv2 with a token, plus the Fargate credential path through `/proc/self/environ`. There is a table of shadow admin permissions: `iam:CreateAccessKey`, `iam:CreateLoginProfile`, `iam:AttachUserPolicy`, `iam:PassRole` with `ec2:RunInstances`, `lambda:UpdateFunctionCode`. Each one ships with its exploitation command. After that come S3, Lambda, SSM and mounting an EBS snapshot.

To get anywhere you need a configured AWS CLI with valid credentials, Python 3 and the boto3 library. The tooling it leans on — Pacu, Prowler, ScoutSuite, SkyArk, enumerate-iam, Principal Mapper — you install yourself. One thing to keep in mind: all of this assumes a legal pentest or red team engagement. Run it against an account you do not own and you are looking at criminal charges; the skill does not check that for you.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill aws-penetration-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-penetration-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill aws-penetration-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill aws-penetration-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install zebbern/claude-code-guide aws-penetration-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill aws-penetration-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/zebbern/claude-code-guide --path skills/aws-penetration-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zebbern/claude-code-guide --skill aws-penetration-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/zebbern/claude-code-guide/tree/HEAD/skills/aws-penetration-testing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- enumerate the permissions behind a low-privilege AWS key
- find an escalation path through shadow admin policies
- pull temporary role credentials from the metadata endpoint via SSRF
- check S3 buckets for public access and download their contents
- extract Lambda code and inject your own with update-function-code

## Example prompts
- check what this AWS key can do and map a path to admin
- find public S3 buckets in the account and pull their contents
- walk me through SSRF to the metadata endpoint to grab role credentials

# AWS Penetration Testing

## Purpose

Provide comprehensive techniques for penetration testing AWS cloud environments. Covers IAM enumeration, privilege escalation, SSRF to metadata endpoint, S3 bucket exploitation, Lambda code extraction, and persistence techniques for red team operations.

## Inputs/Prerequisites

- AWS CLI configured with credentials
- Valid AWS credentials (even low-privilege)
- Understanding of AWS IAM model
- Python 3, boto3 library
- Tools: Pacu, Prowler, ScoutSuite, SkyArk

## Outputs/Deliverables

- IAM privilege escalation paths
- Extracted credentials and secrets
- Compromised EC2/Lambda/S3 resources
- Persistence mechanisms
- Security audit findings

---

## Essential Tools

| Tool | Purpose | Installation |
|------|---------|--------------|
| Pacu | AWS exploitation framework | `git clone https://github.com/RhinoSecurityLabs/pacu` |
| SkyArk | Shadow Admin discovery | `Import-Module .\SkyArk.ps1` |
| Prowler | Security auditing | `pip install prowler` |
| ScoutSuite | Multi-cloud auditing | `pip install scoutsuite` |
| enumerate-iam | Permission enumeration | `git clone https://github.com/andresriancho/enumerate-iam` |
| Principal Mapper | IAM analysis | `pip install principalmapper` |

---

## Core Workflow

### Step 1: Initial Enumeration

Identify the compromised identity and permissions:

```bash
# Check current identity
aws sts get-caller-identity
# Configure profile
aws configure --profile compromised
# List access keys
aws iam list-access-keys
# Enumerate permissions
./enumerate-iam.py --access-key AKIA... --secret-key StF0q...
```

### Step 2: IAM Enumeration

```bash
# List all users
aws iam list-users
# List groups for user
aws iam list-groups-for-user --user-name TARGET_USER
# List attached policies
aws iam list-attached-user-policies --user-name TARGET_USER
# List inline policies
