## What it does

The skill hands the agent ready patterns for Lambda in Python. Two approaches sit side by side: AWS Chalice with built-in routing, and raw Python with minimal overhead. Each comes with a project layout — `app.py` plus a `.chalice` folder for Chalice, `lambda_function.py` and `template.yaml` for the raw variant.

Cold start gets its own section. The agent initializes clients at module level, defers heavy imports and reuses connections across warm invocations. You also get environment config, structured logging for CloudWatch Insights, and error handling that returns proper status codes.

Deployment covers Serverless Framework, AWS SAM and Chalice. Before pushing, the skill tells you to run `serverless print` or `sam validate`, and to test locally with `chalice local` or `sam local invoke`. Keep the Lambda limits in mind: 250MB unzipped package, memory from 128MB to 10GB, 15 minute timeout. For simple handlers it suggests starting at 256MB of memory, 512MB for heavier work.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-python-integration -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-python-integration -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-python-integration -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit aws-lambda-python-integration
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-python-integration -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-python/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-lambda-python-integration/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-python-integration -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- write a first Python Lambda handler without boilerplate
- pick between AWS Chalice and raw Python
- cut cold start time with lazy imports
- wire a function to API Gateway or an ALB
- set up deployment through SAM or Serverless Framework

## Example prompts
- Create a Python Lambda function with a handler and hook it up to API Gateway
- Help me choose between Chalice and raw Python for this service
- Look at this function's cold start and tell me what to move out of init

# AWS Lambda Python Integration

Patterns for creating high-performance AWS Lambda functions in Python with optimized cold starts and clean architecture.

## Overview

AWS Lambda Python integration with two approaches: **AWS Chalice** (full-featured framework) and **Raw Python** (minimal overhead). Both support API Gateway/ALB integration with production-ready configurations.

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
- Creating new Lambda functions in Python
- Migrating existing Python applications to Lambda
- Optimizing cold start performance for Python Lambda
- Choosing between framework-based and minimal Python approaches
- Configuring API Gateway or ALB integration
- Setting up deployment pipelines for Python Lambda

## Instructions

### 1. Choose Your Approach

| Approach | Cold Start | Best For | Complexity |
|----------|------------|----------|------------|
| AWS Chalice | < 200ms | REST APIs, rapid development, built-in routing | Low |
| Raw Python | < 100ms | Simple handlers, maximum control, minimal dependencies | Low |

### 2. Project Structure

#### AWS Chalice Structure
