## What it does

Two routes are covered. Bref gives you standard PHP on Lambda with Symfony support, built-in routing and a cold start under 2s. Raw PHP keeps overhead low and starts under 500ms, but you wire up routing and configuration yourself.

The skill ships handler templates, project layouts for both Symfony and plain PHP, `serverless.yml` examples, AWS client caching at function level, error handling and logging with the `request_id`. A separate section deals with cold starts: lazy-loading services, turning off Symfony features you do not use, and optimizing the composer autoloader.

Know the Lambda limits before you deploy. The package caps at 250MB unzipped, memory runs from 128MB to 10GB, and API Gateway cuts requests at 29 seconds. Container storage disappears after each invocation, so sessions and files belong in S3 or DynamoDB. The skill suggests starting Symfony at 512MB with a 10–30s timeout, and raw PHP at 256MB with 3–10s.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-php-integration -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-php-integration -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-php-integration -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit aws-lambda-php-integration
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-php-integration -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-php/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-lambda-php-integration/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-php-integration -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- write a Lambda handler class in PHP
- move an existing Symfony app onto Lambda
- wire up API Gateway, SQS or SNS triggers
- cut cold start time on a PHP function
- build a `serverless.yml` with the right runtime layers

## Example prompts
- Create a PHP Lambda handler that receives webhooks
- Help me move my Symfony app to AWS Lambda with Bref
- Why is my PHP function's cold start so slow, and how do I fix it

# AWS Lambda PHP Integration

Patterns for deploying PHP and Symfony applications on AWS Lambda using the Bref framework.

## Overview

Two approaches available:
- **Bref Framework** - Standard PHP on Lambda with Symfony support, built-in routing, cold start < 2s
- **Raw PHP** - Minimal overhead, maximum control, cold start < 500ms

Both support API Gateway integration with production-ready configurations.

## When to Use

- Creating new Lambda functions in PHP
- Migrating existing Symfony applications to Lambda
- Optimizing cold start performance
- Configuring API Gateway or SQS/SNS event triggers
- Setting up deployment pipelines for PHP Lambda

## Instructions

### 1. Choose Your Approach

| Approach | Cold Start | Best For | Complexity |
|----------|------------|----------|------------|
| Bref | < 2s | Symfony apps, full-featured APIs | Medium |
| Raw PHP | < 500ms | Simple handlers, maximum control | Low |

### 2. Project Structure

#### Symfony with Bref Structure
```
my-symfony-lambda/
├── composer.json
├── serverless.yml
├── public/
│   └── index.php         # Lambda entry point
├── src/
│   └── Kernel.php        # Symfony Kernel
├── config/
│   ├── bundles.php
│   ├── routes.yaml
│   └── services.yaml
└── templates/
```

#### Raw PHP Structure
```
my-lambda-function/
├── public/
│   └── index.php         # Handler entry point
├── composer.json
├── serverless.yml
└── src/
    └── Services/
```

### 3. Implementation

**Symfony with Bref:**
```php
// public/index.php
use Bref\Symfony\Bref;
use App\Kernel;
use Symfony\Component\HttpFoundation\Request;
````
