## What it does

The skill covers two ways to build a Java Lambda. Micronaut brings AOT compilation, dependency injection and a cold start under one second. Raw Java skips the framework and starts in under 500 ms, at the cost of writing the plumbing yourself.

Inside you get handler examples for both, `serverless.yml` and `template.yaml` templates, and rules for connection handling. Clients such as `DynamoDbClient` are created once in a static field, because initialising them inside the handler repeats the work on every warm invocation. A pitfalls section lists oversized JARs, too little memory and missing timeouts.

Some constraints matter before you commit. Reflection and classpath scanning slow the start, which is why Micronaut leans on AOT, and the skill names Spring Boot as a source of extra cold start overhead. Handlers are meant to be checked with `sam local invoke` and templates with `sam validate` before deploying.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-java-integration -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-java-integration -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-java-integration -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit aws-lambda-java-integration
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-java-integration -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-java/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-lambda-java-integration/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill aws-lambda-java-integration -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- build a Java Lambda function with a cold start under one second
- pick between Micronaut and Raw Java for a given service
- wire API Gateway or ALB to a Java handler
- write the deployment config in `serverless.yml` or `template.yaml`
- find out why warm invocations are slow because of init inside the handler

## Example prompts
- Create a Micronaut Java Lambda for a user REST API
- My Java Lambda has a 3 second cold start, help me optimize the raw handler
- Set up Java Lambda deployment with AWS SAM and API Gateway

# AWS Lambda Java Integration

Patterns for creating high-performance AWS Lambda functions in Java with optimized cold starts.

## Overview

This skill provides complete patterns for AWS Lambda Java development, covering two main approaches:

1. **Micronaut Framework** - Full-featured framework with AOT compilation, dependency injection, and cold start < 1s
2. **Raw Java** - Minimal overhead approach with cold start < 500ms

Both approaches support API Gateway and ALB integration with production-ready configurations.

## When to Use

- Deploying Java functions to AWS Lambda
- Optimizing cold starts below 1 second
- Choosing between Micronaut and Raw Java approaches
- Configuring API Gateway or ALB integration
- Setting up CI/CD pipelines for Java Lambda

## Instructions

### 1. Choose Your Approach

| Approach | Cold Start | Best For | Complexity |
|----------|------------|----------|------------|
| Micronaut | < 1s | Complex apps, DI needed, enterprise | Medium |
| Raw Java | < 500ms | Simple handlers, minimal overhead | Low |

**Validate**: Confirm the approach fits your use case before proceeding.

### 2. Project Structure

```
my-lambda-function/
├── build.gradle (or pom.xml)
├── src/main/java/com/example/Handler.java
└── serverless.yml (or template.yaml)
```

**Validate**: Verify project structure matches the template.

### 3. Implementation Examples

#### Micronaut Handler

```java
@FunctionBean("my-function")
public class MyFunction implements Function<APIGatewayProxyRequestEvent, APIGatewayProxyResponseEvent> {
    private final MyService service;
    public MyFunction(MyService service) {
        this.service = service;
    }
    @Override
