## What it does

The skill guides model customization on Amazon SageMaker from planning to production. It routes user requests to targeted references: discovering base models in JumpStart or public hubs, validating data schemas, running SFT, DPO, RLVR, or RLAIF workflows, and launching SageMaker Training or Processing jobs. Evaluation workflows cover LLM-as-Judge and custom scorers.

For serving, it handles SageMaker Real-Time Endpoints and Bedrock deployment for Nova and open-source models using PySDK v3. It also guides configuration for IAM roles, S3 buckets, and SageMaker Managed MLflow servers. When inference degrades, it inspects container logs to isolate latency sources.

Scope is limited strictly to model customization. It will not handle SageMaker Ground Truth labeling, nor does it cover Feature Store or general-purpose AWS infrastructure.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill aws-ai-ml -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aws-ai-ml/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill aws-ai-ml -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill aws-ai-ml -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws aws-ai-ml
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill aws-ai-ml -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --path skills/core-skills/aws-ai-ml
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill aws-ai-ml -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws/tree/HEAD/skills/core-skills/aws-ai-ml/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Select base models from SageMaker JumpStart and public catalogs
- Configure fine-tuning jobs using SFT, DPO, RLVR, or RLAIF
- Validate dataset formats prior to training
- Diagnose inference failures and latency on SageMaker endpoints

## Example prompts
- Check my training dataset format before starting fine-tuning
- Find a base model in JumpStart suited for deployment
- Why is my SageMaker endpoint failing and what do container logs say?

# AWS AI/ML Model Customization

Domain expertise for fine-tuning and deploying models on Amazon SageMaker. Covers the full model customization lifecycle from planning through production deployment.

## Routing

Match the user's intent to the appropriate reference folder and load only that content.

| User intent | Reference | When to use |
|-------------|-----------|-------------|
| Plan a model customization project, discover scope of work, resume or modify a plan | [references/planning/](references/planning/) | User's request relates to model customization or deployment (fine-tuning, training, building, customizing, reviewing data, deploying or standing up a model — including selecting or deploying an off-the-shelf or base model with no training — or getting advice on approach). Always co-activate with other intents to discover full scope. Load this reference FIRST when the request matches multiple rows in this table — read its plan templates before routing to a single-action reference. |
| Define the business problem, success criteria, or use case spec | [references/use-case-specification/](references/use-case-specification/) | User says "define my use case", "capture requirements", "what should I decide up front", or as default first step in any plan. Skip only if user explicitly declines. |
```
