# second-opinion

This skill sends the agent's own answer through independent reviewers before you ever see it. Useful for architecture calls and picking between options.

## What it does

The agent has to do its own thinking first: research the question, draft a proposal with trade-offs, show it to you. Reviewers come after that. Ask one too early and it seeds the decision instead of validating it.

Three review styles ship with the skill. Devil's Advocate spawns the isolated `idea-validator` agent, which carries no parent context, so it cannot anchor on your framing and reads the actual files. Boardroom Debate fires several reviewers in one message — run them one after another and the later ones inherit the earlier framing. Round-Table diverges, deepens and converges when you are choosing between paths, and it stops to ask your preference before converging.

Got a second model family? Wire it in through a CLI wrapper or API — a different training distribution catches different blind spots. It only sees the brief, with no repo access, so lean on it for concept and tech currency rather than file-level facts. If your user-level config already defines a review board, skip this skill: two review procedures for one decision drift apart.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add awrshift/agent-memory-kit --skill second-opinion -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/second-opinion/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add awrshift/agent-memory-kit --skill second-opinion -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add awrshift/agent-memory-kit --skill second-opinion -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install awrshift/agent-memory-kit second-opinion
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add awrshift/agent-memory-kit --skill second-opinion -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/awrshift/agent-memory-kit --path plugins/memory-kit/skills/second-opinion
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add awrshift/agent-memory-kit --skill second-opinion -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/awrshift/agent-memory-kit/tree/HEAD/plugins/memory-kit/skills/second-opinion/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- choose between two architecture approaches
- vet a plan before taking it to the team
- surface blind spots in the agent's own proposal
- narrow a long option list down to two or three
- verify claims in the agent's answer before shipping

## Example prompts
- Give me a second opinion on this migration plan
- Stress-test my database schema — what am I missing?
- Help me choose between a queue and polling, run a Round-Table

Use when the user says 'second opinion', 'sanity check', 'cross-check', 'am I missing something', 'stress-test', 'devil's advocate', 'run a full review', 'this is important', 'high-stakes', 'help me choose between', 'critique this', or similar. Three review styles: Devil's Advocate (single critique), Boardroom Debate (parallel multi-reviewer validation), Round-Table (multi-round brainstorm for choosing between paths). Not for factual lookups — use WebSearch for those."

# Second Opinion — cross-check before you commit

Stress-test your own answer with reviewers who don't share your framing. The reviewer set
depends on what you have available:

- **Always available:** the isolated `idea-validator` agent (same model family, but NO parent
  context — it can't anchor on your framing, and it READS the actual files).
- **If you have access to a second model family** (Gemini, GPT, …, via a CLI wrapper or API):
  add it as an external reviewer. A different training distribution catches different blind
  spots. It reviews from the brief only (no repo access) — lean on it for concept and
  tech-currency, not file-level facts.

**Already have your own review setup?** If your user-level configuration defines a review board
or a second-opinion skill (your own reviewer agent, a model list, a wrapper for another model
family), use that one and skip this skill — two review procedures for one decision drift apart.
This skill is the default for people who have none.

## When to invoke

1. Two or more viable paths to choose between → Round-Table.
2. High-stakes decision (architecture, launch copy, anything with real rollback cost) →
   Boardroom Debate.
3. Stuck on the same problem after 2+ attempts, or a non-trivial proposal awaiting approval →
   Devil's Advocate.

If none fires, don't invoke — a single-model answer is enough for routine work.
Out of scope: factual lookups ("what's the latest X") — that's WebSearch, not review.

## Own thinking first (load-bearing)

Before ANY review style: do your own research, form your own proposal with rationale and
trade-offs, show it to the user. Only then invoke reviewers to critique it. Asking a reviewer
before forming your own position turns it into a seed for the decision instead of a validator —
and a reviewer without your codebase context can confidently seed something wrong.

## The three styles

### 1. Devil's Advocate (single critique)
