## What it does

The skill refuses to treat one style as universal. Name a style and it uses that one. Name nothing and the agent reads the product context, picks a single style, and says which one before touching the UI.

Inside sit a `design-md` folder of style sets, a `STYLE_INDEX.txt` index, and selection notes in `references/style-selection.md`. Only the chosen `design-md/<style>/DESIGN.md` gets read, never the whole library. The mapping covers common cases: agent consoles map to `voltagent`, `cursor`, `warp`, `linear.app`, `raycast`; SaaS dashboards to `linear.app`, `stripe`, `vercel`, `posthog`, `supabase`; crypto and exchanges to `coinbase`, `binance`, `kraken`, `revolut`, `wise`; luxury and automotive landing pages to `bugatti`, `ferrari`, `bmw`, `tesla`.

A few limits matter. A project-level `DESIGN.md` is never overridden — the skill reads it as the local routing note. It will not import a style file into your repo unless you ask. And when a project mandates a specific file encoding, that local instruction wins over the skill's own habits.

All paths resolve from the folder holding `SKILL.md`. To see what is available, list the index from the skill root: `Get-Content -LiteralPath '.\STYLE_INDEX.txt'`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Linear, Stripe

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wearescientist/awesome-design-md --skill awesome-design-md -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/awesome-design-md/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/awesome-design-md/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wearescientist/awesome-design-md --skill awesome-design-md -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/awesome-design-md/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wearescientist/awesome-design-md --skill awesome-design-md -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/awesome-design-md/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wearescientist/awesome-design-md awesome-design-md
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/awesome-design-md/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wearescientist/awesome-design-md --skill awesome-design-md -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wearescientist/awesome-design-md
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/awesome-design-md/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wearescientist/awesome-design-md --skill awesome-design-md -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wearescientist/awesome-design-md/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick a UI style that fits the product instead of guessing
- rework a page layout around a chosen visual language
- build a dashboard with dense grids and clear hierarchy
- change the look without breaking existing user flows
- borrow component habits and tokens from a known brand

## Example prompts
- style this dashboard like linear.app
- redesign the landing page in the apple style, read DESIGN.md from the library
- choose a style for an agent console and apply it to this page

# Awesome Design MD

## Purpose

Use the bundled Awesome Design MD library as a selectable reference set for UI design. Do not assume one global style. Pick the style that best fits the product, then read that style's `DESIGN.md` before changing UI.

Resolve all library paths relative to this skill folder, meaning the directory that contains this `SKILL.md`.

Bundled library:

`<skill-root>/design-md`

Style index:

`<skill-root>/STYLE_INDEX.txt`

Style file pattern:

`<skill-root>/design-md/<style>/DESIGN.md`

Optional selection notes:

`<skill-root>/references/style-selection.md`

## Workflow

1. If the user names a style, use that exact style when it exists.
2. If no style is named, inspect the product context and choose 1 style. Mention the chosen style briefly before editing.
3. Read `STYLE_INDEX.txt` if you need to see available styles.
4. Read only the selected `design-md/<style>/DESIGN.md`; do not load the whole library.
5. Apply the style as guidance for layout, color, typography, spacing, interaction feel, and component chrome.
6. Preserve existing product constraints, data density, accessibility, and framework conventions.
7. For existing apps, evolve the UI without breaking established flows unless the user explicitly asks for a redesign.

## Default Style Mapping

- Developer tool, AI agent console, automation panel: `voltagent`, `cursor`, `warp`, `linear.app`, `raycast`.
- SaaS dashboard, task/project management, admin console: `linear.app`, `stripe`, `vercel`, `posthog`, `supabase`.
- Consumer/mobile-like polished product: `apple`, `airbnb`, `spotify`, `pinterest`, `notion`.
- Crypto/Web3/exchange/finance: `coinbase`, `binance`, `kraken`, `revolut`, `wise`.
- AI lab/model/product page: `x.ai`, `mistral.ai`, `cohere`, `together.ai`, `runwayml`, `replicate`.
- Docs/developer portal: `mintlify`, `vercel`, `stripe`, `supabase`, `hashicorp`.
