# automation-flow-generate

Turns a plain-language request into Salesforce Flow metadata and returns the XML. Useful when describing an automation beats dragging elements in a builder.

## What it does

The skill takes a request like "send an email when a record is created" and produces Flow metadata. It runs through the MCP tool `execute_metadata_action`, which drives three required steps: fetch the org schema, select flow elements, then generate them one at a time in a loop until `isComplete` comes back true. Pass `"A4V"` as `requestSource` and you get XML.

Screen, Autolaunched, Record-Triggered (before/after-save) and Scheduled flows are all covered. You need the `metadata-experts` MCP server exposing `execute_metadata_action` at version 1.0.0 or higher, plus API version 60.0 or higher. Custom objects and fields from a local sfdx project go into `inflightMetadata` as an array, and the naming is strict: `apiName`, `type`, `referenceTo`. Names like `objectApiName` or `fieldType` will not work.

Hand-editing the returned XML is off the table — no added nodes, no coordinates, no labels. A net-new canvas flow needs a `CanvasMode` entry set to `AUTO_LAYOUT_CANVAS`; without it the flow opens in Free-Form. That is a pipeline gap worth reporting, not something to patch yourself.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill automation-flow-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/automation-flow-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill automation-flow-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill automation-flow-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills automation-flow-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill automation-flow-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/automation-flow-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill automation-flow-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/automation-flow-generate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate a Flow from a written process description
- get metadata XML for a Record-Triggered flow
- build a Scheduled flow that runs on a timer
- pass local sfdx objects and fields into flow generation
- debug deployment errors coming from Flows

## Example prompts
- Create a Record-Triggered Flow that updates the Rating field when an Account is created
- Generate a Scheduled Flow that emails a list of overdue tasks every day
- Build a Screen Flow to collect new customer details

## Goal

Generate Salesforce Flow metadata by running the required 3-step MCP pipeline (fetchGroundedObjectMetadata → flowElementSelection → flowElementGeneration) and return the flow XML.

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when you need to:
- Create any type of Flow (Screen, Autolaunched, Record-Triggered, Scheduled)
- Generate Flow metadata XML
- Automate business processes without code
- Build user-guided workflows or background automation
- Troubleshoot deployment errors related to Flows

## Specification

# Flow Metadata Specification

## Overview
Salesforce Flows are powerful automation tools that enable complex business process automation without code. Flows can collect and process data through interactive screens, execute logic and calculations, manipulate records, call external services, and trigger based on various events. Flow types include Screen Flows (user-guided), Autolaunched Flows (background processing), Record-Triggered Flows (database events) and Scheduled Flows (time-based).

## Flow Generation Pipeline

**MANDATORY: You MUST follow this exact 3-step pipeline. No exceptions. No shortcuts. No skipping steps. Do NOT manually create flow metadata XML or attempt to generate flow metadata outside of this pipeline. Do NOT attempt to use any other tool, API, or method to generate flow metadata. This pipeline is the ONLY supported way to generate flows. Any deviation will produce invalid or broken metadata.**

### MCP Connection Details

**All 3 pipeline steps MUST be called using this MCP tool:**
- **MCP Tool Name:** `execute_metadata_action`
