## What it does

This skill turns the assistant into a Microsoft AutoGen reference. It covers the Python framework for multi-agent systems and hands back short answers with runnable snippets: `AssistantAgent`, `UserProxyAgent`, `RoundRobinGroupChat`, `SelectorGroupChat`, `Swarm`.

Tool integration is spelled out too. Functions get wrapped with `FunctionTool` from `autogen_core.tools`, and code runs either through `LocalCommandLineCodeExecutor` or `DockerCommandLineCodeExecutor` inside a container. The skill pushes async/await for agent communication, plus error handling and logging. Model access goes through `OpenAIChatCompletionClient`, so you need a key in `OPENAI_API_KEY`.

What you get are patterns, not a finished design. Termination conditions such as `TextMentionTermination` and `MaxMessageTermination` still have to be tuned to your task. If AutoGen isn't in your stack, there is nothing here for you — the whole skill is about that one framework.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill autogen-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/autogen-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/autogen-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill autogen-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/autogen-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill autogen-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/autogen-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills autogen-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/autogen-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill autogen-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path autogen-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/autogen-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill autogen-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Mindrally/skills/tree/HEAD/autogen-development/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire up a group chat with a termination condition
- expose a Python function to an agent as a tool
- run agent-generated code inside Docker
- pass tasks between agents with handoffs
- configure a model client that reads the API key from the environment

## Example prompts
- Create an AssistantAgent with a database search tool and a usage example
- Build a SelectorGroupChat with a planner, a coder and a reviewer
- How do I set up DockerCommandLineCodeExecutor for a coding agent?

# AutoGen Multi-Agent Development

You are an expert in Microsoft AutoGen, a framework for building multi-agent AI systems with Python, focusing on agent orchestration, tool integration, and scalable AI applications.

## Key Principles

- Write concise, technical responses with accurate Python examples
- Use async/await patterns for agent communication
- Implement proper error handling and logging
- Follow event-driven architecture patterns
- Use type hints for all function signatures

## Setup and Installation

### Environment Setup

```python
# Install AutoGen
# pip install autogen-agentchat autogen-ext
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_agentchat.teams import RoundRobinGroupChat
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
```

### Model Configuration

```python
import os
# Configure the model client
model_client = OpenAIChatCompletionClient(
    model="gpt-4o",
    api_key=os.environ.get("OPENAI_API_KEY")
)
```

## Core Concepts

### Agent Types

AutoGen provides several agent types:

- **AssistantAgent**: AI-powered agent for conversations and task completion
- **UserProxyAgent**: Represents human users, can execute code
- **GroupChat**: Orchestrates multi-agent conversations
- **ConversableAgent**: Base class for custom agents

## Creating Agents

### Basic Assistant Agent

```python
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
model_client = OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o")
assistant = AssistantAgent(
    name="assistant",
    model_client=model_client,
    system_message="""You are a helpful AI assistant.
    Provide clear, concise responses.
    Ask clarifying questions when needed."""
)
```

### Agent with Tools

```python
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_core.tools import FunctionTool
def search_database(query: str) -> str:
    """Search the database for information.
    Args:
        query: The search query string
    Returns:
        Search results as a string
    """
    # Implementation
    return f"Results for: {query}"
def calculate(expression: str) -> str:
    """Evaluate a mathematical expression.
    Args:
        expression: Mathematical expression to evaluate
    Returns:
        The result of the calculation
    """
    try:
        result = eval(expression)
        return str(result)
    except Exception as e:
        return f"Error: {str(e)}"
# Create tools
