Runs a compiled paper through review, fixes and recompile twice in a row, with no one watching.

## What it does

This skill picks up where the writing pipeline ends. `/paper-plan`, `/paper-figure`, `/paper-write` and `/paper-compile` have already produced a PDF; the loop takes the paper directory, sends it out for review by `gpt-6-astra` over Codex MCP, reads the feedback, edits the sources and rebuilds. Two rounds, no more. Round one tends to surface structural problems, round two catches presentation leftovers, and past that the returns flatten out.

Tools it reaches for: Bash, Read, Write, Edit, Grep, Glob plus a set of MCP review endpoints. Every round opens a fresh `mcp__codex__codex` thread with no memory of earlier feedback. That detail matters. Feed a reviewer a prompt like "since last round we fixed X" and scores drift upward — a real 3/10 comes back as 8/10. Each round lands in `PAPER_IMPROVEMENT_LOG.md` inside the paper directory.

By default the loop runs unattended. Passing `-- human checkpoint: true` pauses after each review so you can read the score and the weak spots, approve fixes or stop early. `-- edit-whitelist <path>` constrains which paths and operations the fix step may touch, and rejected edits get logged instead of vanishing. Do not wrap it in `/loop` or `/schedule` — the skill already loops internally, and a wall-clock timer adds no new signal.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill auto-paper-improvement-loop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill auto-paper-improvement-loop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill auto-paper-improvement-loop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep auto-paper-improvement-loop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill auto-paper-improvement-loop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill auto-paper-improvement-loop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/auto-paper-improvement-loop/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- send a finished paper through outside review and rebuild it
- soften overclaims and fix theoretical inconsistencies
- add the missing sections a reviewer flagged
- restrict edits to a whitelist of paths
- pause after each round to read the score

## Example prompts
- run auto-paper-improvement-loop on the `paper/` directory
- improve the paper in `paper/` with `-- human checkpoint: true`
- start the loop for `paper/` with `-- edit-whitelist whitelist.yaml`

# Auto Paper Improvement Loop: Review → Fix → Recompile

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their
> own first-call/reply contract. Save the route and actual returned identity;
> unavailable selections are `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Classify acceptance from actual
> families/completion/scope. Forward invocation reviewer/model/effort overrides
> to reviewer-bearing children. Generation workers are unchanged.

> 🔒 **Do not wrap this skill in `/loop`, `/schedule`, or `CronCreate`.** It
> already loops internally (review → fix → recompile) with its own round
> structure and a deliberate fresh-reviewer bias guard each round (no
> `codex-reply`). Re-asking it to "improve the paper" on a
> wall-clock timer produces no new signal — quality changes when the *review*
> changes, not when the clock ticks — and a timed re-run that also accepts its
> own output to decide when to stop crosses into self-acquittal
```
