## What it does

This skill guides coding agents through implementing user authentication for Web applications using `@cloudbase/js-sdk` v3. Its API follows Supabase conventions: methods return `{ data, error }`, and reactive state is tracked with `onAuthStateChange`. It covers email, phone OTP, username-password, and OAuth flows. It explicitly excludes mini programs, backend services, and native mobile apps.

A key focus is avoiding common pitfalls in CloudBase integration. The agent must verify enabled providers via `auth-tool-cloudbase` before writing client code. Relying on deprecated `auth.getLoginState()` breaks security guards because an initialized `accessKey` returns a dummy `uid` without any active login. Only `auth.getSession()` confirms an authentic gateway session. Without an authenticated session, NoSQL operations trigger 401 errors.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill auth-web-cloudbase -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill auth-web-cloudbase -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill auth-web-cloudbase -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install TencentCloudBase/skills auth-web-cloudbase
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill auth-web-cloudbase -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/TencentCloudBase/skills --path skills/auth-web-cloudbase
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill auth-web-cloudbase -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/TencentCloudBase/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/auth-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- integrate email or OTP sign-in flows with CloudBase Web SDK
- set up reliable route guards using getSession instead of legacy methods
- handle OTP verification via returned result callbacks
- prevent 401 gateway errors on NoSQL database calls

## Example prompts
- Implement a login modal with username and password using CloudBase Web SDK
- Set up phone OTP verification callback flow in our frontend form
- Add protected route checks using getSession from Tencent CloudBase

## Sibling skills (local only)

Sibling CloudBase skills ship beside this skill. Use local relative paths such as `../auth-tool-cloudbase/SKILL.md`.

If a referenced sibling skill file is missing from this environment, ask the user to install the full CloudBase plugin (or the missing skill). Do **not** HTTP-fetch remote skill or protocol markdown into the agent context.

## Activation Contract

### Use this first when

- The task is a CloudBase Web login, registration, session, or user profile flow built with `@cloudbase/js-sdk` and the auth provider setup has already been checked.

### Read before writing code if

- The user needs a login page, auth modal, session handling, or protected Web route. Read `auth-tool-cloudbase` first to ensure providers are enabled, then return here for frontend integration.

### Then also read

- `../auth-tool-cloudbase/SKILL.md` for provider setup
- `../web-development/SKILL.md` for Web project structure and deployment

### Do not start here first when

- The request is a Web auth flow but provider configuration has not been verified yet.
- In that case, activate `auth-tool-cloudbase` before `auth-web-cloudbase`.

### Do NOT use for

- Mini program auth, native App auth, or server-side auth setup.

### Common mistakes / gotchas

- Skipping publishable key and provider checks.
- Replacing built-in Web auth with cloud function login logic.
- Reusing this flow in Flutter, React Native, or native iOS/Android code.
- Creating a detached helper file with `auth.signUp` / `verifyOtp` but never wiring it into the existing form handlers, so the actual button clicks still do nothing.
- Using `signInWithEmailAndPassword` or `signUpWithEmailAndPassword` for username-style accounts such as `admin` and `editor`.
- Keeping the login or register account input as `type="email"` when the task explicitly says the account identifier is a plain username string.
- Starting implementation before calling `queryAppAuth(action="getLoginConfig")` and enabling `usernamePassword` when it is still off.
