## What it does

The skill reads your authentication and authorization code and returns findings: what is wrong, how bad it is, how to fix it. Inside are checklists for sessions, JWT, CSRF, passwords, MFA and access checks. Each topic comes as an insecure/secure pair in TypeScript: `session` config, token signing and storage, `csurf` middleware, `bcrypt` hashing, TOTP with `speakeasy`, IDOR and session fixation defences.

It fits the moment after login and signup already work and you want a pass before release. The skill looks at specific spots: `secure`, `httpOnly` and `sameSite` on cookies, token lifetime, session regeneration after login, ownership checks before a delete. For each one it spells out what the current version exposes you to.

Examples are TypeScript, so on another stack you port the advice by hand. Secrets in the samples come from environment variables — a good reason to check yours are not hardcoded.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill auth-security-reviewer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/auth-security-reviewer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/auth-security-reviewer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill auth-security-reviewer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/auth-security-reviewer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill auth-security-reviewer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/auth-security-reviewer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills auth-security-reviewer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/auth-security-reviewer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill auth-security-reviewer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path security/auth-security-reviewer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/auth-security-reviewer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill auth-security-reviewer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- check session config for weak cookie flags
- find CSRF gaps in state-changing routes
- judge JWT lifetime and where the token is stored
- catch IDOR when users reach objects they do not own
- review password hashing and password rules

## Example prompts
- review the auth in this project and list findings by severity
- audit sessions and CSRF protection under `src/auth`
- analyze the login and token refresh flows for vulnerabilities

Comprehensive security review of authentication systems.

## Session Security Checklist

```typescript
// ❌ INSECURE Session Configuration
app.use(
  session({
    secret: "weak-secret", // Too simple
    resave: true, // Unnecessary
    saveUninitialized: true, // Creates unnecessary sessions
    cookie: {
      secure: false, // Not HTTPS-only
      httpOnly: false, // Accessible via JavaScript
      sameSite: false, // CSRF vulnerable
      maxAge: 365 * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000, // 1 year - too long
    },
  })
);
// ✅ SECURE Session Configuration
app.use(
  session({
    secret: process.env.SESSION_SECRET, // From environment
    resave: false,
    saveUninitialized: false,
    name: "sessionId", // Don't use default 'connect.sid'
    cookie: {
      secure: true, // HTTPS only
      httpOnly: true, // No JavaScript access
      sameSite: "strict", // CSRF protection
      maxAge: 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000, // 24 hours
      domain: process.env.COOKIE_DOMAIN,
    },
    store: new RedisStore({
      client: redisClient,
      ttl: 86400,
    }),
  })
);
```

## JWT Security Review

```typescript
// ❌ INSECURE JWT Implementation
const token = jwt.sign(
  { userId: user.id },
  "weak-secret", // Hardcoded secret
  { algorithm: "HS256" } // No expiration
);
// Store in localStorage
localStorage.setItem("token", token); // XSS vulnerable
// ✅ SECURE JWT Implementation
const token = jwt.sign(
  {
    userId: user.id,
    role: user.role,
    iat: Math.floor(Date.now() / 1000),
  },
  process.env.JWT_SECRET, // Strong secret from env
  {
    algorithm: "HS256",
    expiresIn: "15m", // Short-lived
    issuer: "myapp.com",
    audience: "myapp.com",
  }
);
// Store in httpOnly cookie
res.cookie("accessToken", token, {
  httpOnly: true,
  secure: true,
  sameSite: "strict",
  maxAge: 15 * 60 * 1000,
});
// Refresh token with longer expiry
const refreshToken = jwt.sign(
  { userId: user.id, type: "refresh" },
  process.env.REFRESH_TOKEN_SECRET,
  { expiresIn: "7d" }
);
// Store refresh token in database
await storeRefreshToken(user.id, refreshToken);
```

## CSRF Protection

```typescript
// Using csurf middleware
import csrf from "csurf";
const csrfProtection = csrf({ cookie: true });
// Apply to state-changing routes
app.post("/api/transfer", csrfProtection, async (req, res) => {
  // Protected from CSRF
  await processTransfer(req.body);
