## What it does

This skill covers the universal side of working with the Attio MCP server: how to lay out multi-step workflows, how to call the tools correctly, and how to build integrations on top. It ships four references — `resources/workflows.md` for workflow patterns, `resources/golden-rules.md` for the error-prevention system, `resources/tool-reference.md` for tool signatures, and `resources/integration-patterns.md` as a pattern index. A fifth file, `resources/patterns/README.md`, routes you to the right pattern by keyword.

The split matters. This skill answers how; `attio-workspace-schema` answers what — attribute slugs, select and status values, list IDs, read-only fields. Universal patterns alone will not fill in your workspace's slugs, so the two are meant to be read together.

Worth installing once the Attio MCP server is already connected and you keep hitting call errors or guessing at step order. The skill does not replace the server itself: get a working Attio MCP server first, then add these patterns.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --skill attio-mcp-usage -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/attio-mcp-usage/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --skill attio-mcp-usage -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --skill attio-mcp-usage -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install kesslerio/attio-mcp-server attio-mcp-usage
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --skill attio-mcp-usage -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --path skills/attio-mcp-usage
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kesslerio/attio-mcp-server --skill attio-mcp-usage -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/kesslerio/attio-mcp-server/tree/HEAD/skills/attio-mcp-usage/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- plan a multi-step Attio workflow
- debug a failing MCP tool call
- look up Attio MCP tool signatures
- build an integration on top of Attio
- connect generic patterns to your workspace fields

## Example prompts
- Help me plan a multi-step flow: create a company in Attio and link a contact to it
- This Attio MCP tool call keeps erroring — find the pattern for my case
- Show me the tool signature for looking up a record in Attio

# Attio MCP Usage Guide

Universal workflow patterns and best practices for the Attio MCP server.

## Purpose

Teaches universal patterns for:

- Structuring multi-step workflows
- Preventing common API errors
- Using MCP tools correctly
- Building integrations

## Related Skills

## Pattern Selection

## When to Use This Skill

- Planning multi-step workflows
- Troubleshooting API errors
- Learning MCP tool syntax
- Building integrations
- Understanding best practices

## Key Principles

1. **Schema skill = WHAT** (your specific fields/lists)
2. **Usage skill = HOW** (universal patterns)
3. **Cross-reference** when you need workspace specifics
