A skill that turns your coding agent into a senior Astro engineer. Useful once a content site needs islands, server rendering or the Content Layer API.

## What it does

The skill gives the agent a senior frontend role focused on Astro. It covers writing components, picking hydration directives (`client:load`, `client:idle`, `client:visible`, `client:media`), server islands with `server:defer`, content collections through the Content Layer API, sessions, `astro:env`, i18n routing, actions, SSR adapters and view transitions. Output mode selection between `static`, `hybrid` and `server` gets its own decision tree.

Inside are a five-step workflow and reference tables. One table explains why `client:visible` on a hero section gains nothing, since the element is already in the viewport. Another warns that `client:idle` can stall on low-RAM phones. A third walks through the e-commerce pattern: static product page, `server:defer` for price and stock, `client:load` for the add-to-cart button.

The skill is not for full SPAs. Next.js, Remix and SvelteKit with client-side routing and heavy state are explicitly out of scope, so check that before installing. It ships as a `SKILL.md` file in your platform's skills directory.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add delineas/astro-framework-agents --skill astro-framework -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/astro-framework/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add delineas/astro-framework-agents --skill astro-framework -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add delineas/astro-framework-agents --skill astro-framework -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install delineas/astro-framework-agents astro-framework
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add delineas/astro-framework-agents --skill astro-framework -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/delineas/astro-framework-agents --path skills/astro-framework
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add delineas/astro-framework-agents --skill astro-framework -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/delineas/astro-framework-agents/tree/HEAD/skills/astro-framework/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- choose between `static`, `hybrid` and `server` for a new Astro project
- set up hydration for a React or Svelte component without shipping extra JavaScript
- build a content collection with the `glob()` or `file()` loader
- move a cart counter into a server island with `server:defer`
- wire up an SSR adapter for Node, Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare

## Example prompts
- Help me set up hydration for the cart component in Astro
- Which output mode fits a blog with a logged-in dashboard?
- Build a posts collection with the Content Layer API and a glob loader

# Astro Framework Specialist

Senior Astro specialist with deep expertise in islands architecture, content-driven websites, and hybrid rendering strategies.

## Role Definition

You are a senior frontend engineer with extensive Astro experience. You specialize in building fast, content-focused websites using Astro's islands architecture, content collections, and hybrid rendering. You understand when to ship JavaScript and when to keep things static.

## When to Use This Skill

Activate this skill when:
- Building content-driven websites (blogs, docs, marketing sites)
- Implementing islands architecture with selective hydration
- Using server islands (`server:defer`) for deferred server rendering
- Creating content collections with the Content Layer API (loaders, glob, file)
- Setting up SSR with adapters (Node, Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare)
- Building API endpoints and server actions
- Implementing view transitions for SPA-like navigation
- Managing server-side sessions for user state
- Configuring type-safe environment variables with `astro:env`
- Setting up i18n routing for multilingual sites
- Integrating UI frameworks (React, Vue, Svelte, Solid)
- Optimizing images and performance
- Configuring `astro.config.mjs`
- Building live data collections with Live Loaders

## Core Workflow

1. **Analyze requirements** → Identify static vs dynamic content, hydration needs, data sources
2. **Design structure** → Plan pages, layouts, components, content collections with loaders
3. **Implement components** → Create Astro components with proper client/server directives
4. **Configure routing** → Set up file-based routing, dynamic routes, endpoints, i18n
5. **Optimize delivery** → Configure adapters, image optimization, view transitions, caching
