# asset-placement-gate

Tells you whether a proposed skill, plugin or agent deserves a place in the shared collection, should stay project-local, or should not exist at all.

## What it does

The skill kicks in when you have an idea for a new skill, plugin or subagent and no clear home for it. It accepts either a file path or a plain description covering three things: what the thing does, when it gets invoked, and who will use it. Miss any of those and the skill stops and asks you to fill the gap.

A four-criteria check follows, with two criteria required and at least one more from the remaining pair. The overlap criterion leans on a mechanical pass: the skill lists names and descriptions under `plugins/fh-meta/skills/*/SKILL.md` and `plugins/fh-commons/skills/*/SKILL.md`, counts the rows, then looks for a whole-name or whole-trigger match. Zero rows means the criterion comes back undetermined rather than passed. So run it from the repository root. From anywhere else `grep` finds no `plugins` tree and the whole verdict drifts.

The tool set is small: `Read`, `Grep`, `Glob` and `Bash`. Execution runs as an ordered sequence, from parsing the input to a verdict of either suitable for the shared collection or leave it local or skip it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill asset-placement-gate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/asset-placement-gate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill asset-placement-gate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill asset-placement-gate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install chrono-meta/forge-harness asset-placement-gate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill asset-placement-gate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness --path plugins/fh-meta/skills/asset-placement-gate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill asset-placement-gate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness/tree/HEAD/plugins/fh-meta/skills/asset-placement-gate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide whether a new idea belongs in the shared skill set
- catch a name that an existing skill already uses
- separate project-only automation from work other projects can reuse
- write down purpose and triggers before building the agent
- spot a renamed duplicate before it lands in the repository

## Example prompts
- Should I turn this into an FH skill? Here's what it does and who calls it.
- Run `/asset-placement-gate` on `.claude/agents/jira-create.md` and tell me if it belongs in the shared set.
- I want to pull this pattern into its own file but don't know where. Check it with `/asset-placement-gate`.

# asset-placement-gate

Routes new skills, agents, and plugins to the correct location when proposed.

## Triggers
- "Should I make this an FH skill?"
- "Where should I put this agent?"
- When a new FH asset creation is proposed
- `/asset-placement-gate {asset name or description}`

### Natural Language Triggers (example user phrases)

When unsure where to place a new asset or skill:

| Example phrase | Intent |
|---|---|
| "Should I put this in a separate file?" | Asset necessity + placement decision |
| "Can this pattern be shared across projects?" | FH cross-project value assessment |
| "Is this only for our project, or can others use it too?" | cross-project vs local routing |
| "What if I turn this into a skill and use it across projects?" | FH 4-criteria trigger |
| "Where should I put this agent if I want to share it?" | Placement routing needed |
| "Should I extract this to a separate file, or leave it?" | Asset necessity + placement decision |
| "I'd like to manage this as a shared resource" | Cross-project shared management review |
| "Decide whether this stays local or is available to other teams too" | cross-project vs local routing |
| "I don't know where to save this" | Placement routing needed |
| "Should this become a shared asset?" | FH 4-criteria trigger |

### Execution Order (summary)

1. Request full file path from user (or accept natural language description)
2. Load asset content via `Read` (if path provided)
2.5. Step 0.5 mechanical overlap pre-scan (grounds criterion ④) + Step 0.6 official-corpora check (grounds criterion ③)
3. Evaluate Step 1 4-criteria in order (LLM makes the judgment, ④ gated on the Step 0.5 scan, ③ informed by Step 0.6)
4. ① + ④ both pass + at least one of ②③ passes → output **"FH suitable"**
   Otherwise, proceed to Step 2 local assessment → if fails, output **"Project-local agent or no asset needed"**

---

## Step 0. Parse Input + Fetch Asset

Immediately after trigger, acquire asset content in the following order.
```
