## What it does

The skill defines an IT asset taxonomy and metadata schema for configuration management databases (CMDB). It covers compute instances, storage, network components, IAM policies, and SaaS tools. Each record tracks required attributes like asset ID, cloud provider, owner, environment, and data classification.

It includes a ready-to-run Bash script named `aws-asset-discovery.sh`. The script queries AWS APIs to extract details on EC2 instances, RDS databases, S3 buckets, Lambda functions, and EKS clusters. Output writes directly to date-stamped JSON files.

Automated discovery depends directly on having the AWS CLI and `jq` installed locally. Without active AWS credentials and read permissions for `Describe*` and `List*` actions, the extraction script fails immediately.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill asset-inventory -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/asset-inventory/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/asset-inventory/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill asset-inventory -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/asset-inventory/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill asset-inventory -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/asset-inventory/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills asset-inventory
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/asset-inventory/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill asset-inventory -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path compliance/governance/asset-inventory
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/asset-inventory/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill asset-inventory -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- catalog cloud, on-premise, and SaaS IT assets
- prepare a system component inventory for ISO 27001 or SOC 2 audits
- extract AWS resources into JSON using automated Bash scripts
- enforce tagging standards for cost allocation and data classification

## Example prompts
- Run the AWS asset discovery script to inventory my EC2 and RDS instances
- Define the required CMDB schema fields for our cloud resources
- Prepare an asset inventory report for an upcoming SOC 2 audit

# Asset Inventory

Maintain comprehensive IT asset inventory using automated discovery, AWS Config rules, cloud asset discovery scripts, CMDB integration, and tagging enforcement for compliance and operational visibility.

## When to Use

- Building or maintaining an IT asset inventory for compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, FedRAMP)
- Implementing automated cloud resource discovery across accounts and regions
- Enforcing tagging standards for cost allocation, ownership, and data classification
- Integrating asset data with a CMDB for operational workflows
- Preparing for audits that require a complete system component inventory
