# asc-release-flow

Carries an iOS release from an approved plan through App Store review. Handy once the build exists and needs staging, uploading or publishing.

## What it does

The skill lays out how to drive the `asc` CLI: stage metadata and attach a build, push an IPA or compile locally, send a prepared version to review, assemble a multi-item submission. Each intent maps to a command — `asc release stage`, `asc review submit`, `asc publish appstore`, or the lower-level `asc review` commands when IAPs, subscriptions or Game Center items are involved.

A dry run comes before any mutating high-level command, and submission needs `--confirm`. Readiness runs through `asc validate --app "APP_ID" --version "1.2.3" --platform IOS`; strict mode makes warnings halt automation. Digital goods are a hard gate. If the release carries IAPs or subscriptions, the flow stops and hands off to `asc-submission-health`, and it resumes only once those product checks show no blockers. Lanes cannot be mixed after a review submission exists — inspect what is already there first.

Have these ready: `APP_ID`, the version string, `VERSION_ID` and `BUILD_ID` when needed, auth via `asc auth login` or `ASC_*` environment variables, a confirmed platform (`IOS` unless the app targets another), and canonical metadata under `./metadata`. When the metadata plan contains deletes, both the dry run and the confirmed run need `--allow-deletes`; that flag also turns off falling back to an existing locale when it is missing locally. Blockers other than Game Center preparation, stuck submissions, cancellation and retry calls belong to `asc-submission-health`, not here.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --skill asc-release-flow -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/asc-release-flow/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --skill asc-release-flow -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --skill asc-release-flow -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills asc-release-flow
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --skill asc-release-flow -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --path skills/asc-release-flow
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills --skill asc-release-flow -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/rorkai/app-store-connect-cli-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/asc-release-flow/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- stage version metadata and attach a build to it
- upload a finished IPA and submit it in one go
- build the app locally from a workspace or project
- assemble a submission with IAPs, subscriptions and Game Center items
- validate a version before submitting and catch warnings

## Example prompts
- Stage version 1.2.3 with metadata from `./metadata` and build `BUILD_ID`, dry run first
- Submit the prepared version 1.2.3 for review with `asc review submit` and `--confirm`
- Publish `./App.ipa` as version 1.2.3 and send it to review

# App Store release orchestration

Use this skill to carry a release from an approved plan to App Store review. Keep Game Center item preparation here; keep other blocker diagnosis and review recovery in `asc-submission-health`.

## Ownership boundary

This skill owns:

- staging metadata and attaching a build;
- publishing an IPA or building locally;
- submitting a prepared version;
- assembling a multi-item review submission.

Use [the preparation section](references/multi-item-submissions.md#prepare-every-item) for Game Center item preparation or attachment blockers. Use that reference's assembly and submission sections only after the app version is staged and the multi-item lane is selected. Switch to `asc-submission-health` for other validation blockers, a stuck submission, cancellation, or retry decisions.

Switch skills within the current task, preserving resolved targets, authorization, and verified progress. A failing gate blocks dependent mutations, not diagnosis or independent authorized work. Continue authorized repairs and resume this flow; request new authority only when repairs exceed the agreed scope.

## Preconditions

- Resolve `APP_ID`, the version string, `VERSION_ID` when needed, and `BUILD_ID` when a build already exists.
- Configure auth with `asc auth login` or `ASC_*` environment variables.
- Confirm the intended platform. Use `IOS` unless the app targets another platform.
- Keep canonical metadata in `./metadata` when the workflow applies metadata.
- Require a dry run before a mutating high-level command, then require `--confirm` for submission.
