# asb-carol-strengths

Turns raw company observations into a short set of deep-truth attributes, then sorts each one as a strength, a weakness, or both. Useful once the facts are gathered but the verdict is missing.

## What it does

The skill takes an observations list (O1, O2, … — a file or pasted text) and proposes attributes one at a time, each citing the observations behind it. Generic claims like “we love our customers” get killed by the Opposite Test: if no successful company would rationally pick the opposite, the attribute never gets recorded. This is the second step of an ICP method, so the observations have to exist already — there is nothing to distill without them.

Classification runs on a concrete rubric. An attribute counts as a strength when more than a third of the market sees it that way, or when some customers buy for that reason alone. It counts as a weakness when more than a third of the market treats it as a minus, or when some customers refuse to buy over it. Sometimes both answers come back yes, and then the attribute lands in both columns as a pending strategic choice. When neither does, it goes to a cuts list with one line of reasoning.

Output goes to `STRENGTHS-WEAKNESSES.md`, numbered S1, S2, … and W1, W2, …; a both-attribute carries a number in each column, cross-referenced. Claims of greatness that the record contradicts are classified by the record, not the claim. Gathering observations and deriving keystones or deal-breakers from finished attributes belong to other steps of the method.

- File: `~/.claude/skills/asb-carol-strengths/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/asb-carol-strengths/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add asmartbear/asb-skills --skill asb-carol-strengths -a codex
## When to use it
- turn a pile of company observations into a short attribute list
- kill generic claims like “we love our customers”
- decide which attributes count as strengths and which as weaknesses
- spot attributes some customers love and others cannot stand
- record cut attributes with reasoning so attention moves on
## Example prompts
- Here is `observations.md` — distill it into attributes and classify each one
- What are our real strengths and weaknesses based on these observations?
- Run the Opposite Test on “we love our customers” and write the result to `STRENGTHS-WEAKNESSES.md`
# Strengths & Weaknesses: The Attributes That Matter
Raw observations are evidence; strategy needs a verdict. This skill
turns a pile of honest facts about a company into a short chart of
classified attributes — the strengths a future ideal customer will love
you for, and the weaknesses she'll either tolerate or be repelled by.
Two moves, in order: distill the observations into the few deep truths
underneath them, then classify each one with a rubric that resolves the
paradox that almost anything can be argued either way.
## The mental model
### Observations → deep truths
The facts we notice are usually consequences of something deeper.
"Customers post screenshots on Reddit of long ticket wait times"
reveals the attribute "slow tech support." "Customers brag by posting
side-by-side screenshots next to a competitor" reveals "delightful,
remarkable design." Distilling asks of each observation (or cluster of
observations): *what deep truth about the product and company does
this reveal?* Fewer, stronger attributes beat many weak ones — a
