# article-highlights

Builds editorial article inserts in Remotion: marker highlights behind the text, a paper card, a slow camera push. For news and release beats where a terminal would feel forced.

## What it does

The skill walks the agent through a fixed script. First it asks which format and background you want, then it builds the scene. Formats are 4:3 at 1440×1080 for a half-screen Instagram insert or 9:16 at 1080×1920 full screen. Backgrounds are warm light, clean dark, light grid, or dark grid. If you hand the choice to the agent, it picks warm light.

Inside is a layered DOM and SVG build. The editorial paper card sits on the chosen surface, a marker layer on rough.js or SVG goes above the paper, and the text renders above the marker. That ordering keeps the highlight visible behind the words instead of over them. Animation runs on `useCurrentFrame()`, `spring()` and `interpolate()`; CSS animation is out. A brief blur-to-focus comes first, then a slow camera push, and marker strokes start only after focus settles, drawn left to right one at a time.

The hard rule is no neon, glow, bloom, colored shadows, gradient washes or glassmorphism. The marker has to read as physical and muted, not as emitted light. The skill also insists on real source material: invented publications, dates and quotes get rejected. Before delivery the agent runs an eight-point gate and hands over an MP4 with dimensions, duration and the render command.

It is meant to run alongside `remotion-best-practices`, `motion-graphics` and `cinematic-camera` — without them you will be assembling part of the pipeline yourself.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --skill article-highlights -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/article-highlights/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --skill article-highlights -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --skill article-highlights -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill article-highlights
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --skill article-highlights -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --path skills/article-highlights
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill --skill article-highlights -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill/tree/HEAD/skills/article-highlights/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn an article excerpt into a news insert
- highlight key phrases without covering the text
- fit the card to 4:3 or 9:16 without cropping
- keep editorial typography instead of a title slide
- check legibility at the mobile placement size

## Example prompts
- Build a Remotion insert from this article: 9:16, clean dark background, highlight two key phrases with the marker
- Make an article highlight at 4:3 1440×1080, draw the marker left to right after focus, no glow
- Run the rejection gate on this insert: marker behind text, real source, readable on mobile

# Article Highlights

Use with `remotion-best-practices`, `motion-graphics`, and `cinematic-camera` for news, release, trend, and article-proof moments where a terminal would feel forced.

## Mandatory intake

Before coding, ask for any missing decision:

> Which format do you want: 4:3 half-screen Instagram insert or 9:16 full-screen Instagram? And which background: warm light, clean dark, light grid, or dark grid?

- 4:3 insert: 1440×1080, designed to remain readable at roughly half of a 9:16 frame.
- 9:16 full-screen: 1080×1920, respecting caption/interface zones.
- Use 16:9 only when explicitly requested.
- If the user delegates the background, use warm light.

The article paper can remain light on a clean-dark or dark-grid scene. Do not silently change the whole composition to dark.

## Absolute visual ban

Zero neon, glow, bloom, luminous edges, colored shadows, cyan-purple gradients, gradient orbs, radial color washes, glassmorphism, cyberpunk lighting, or vibe-coded AI decoration. Highlights must look like physical marker/paper treatment—not emitted light.

Reject any prohibited treatment before delivery.

## Approved reference

Inspect `assets/examples/article-highlight.mp4` and contact/reference frames before coding. Continue its editorial hierarchy, generous paper spacing, restrained marker treatment, slow camera, and legibility. Use the canonical repository gallery when local assets are unavailable: `https://github.com/Liamrjohnston/remotion-motion-graphics-skill`.

## When to use

Use for:

- Informative/news/release/trend beats.
- “Something changed or launched” proof.
- Real article excerpts with meaningful highlighted phrases.
- Non-terminal evidence where editorial material clarifies the point.
