# arkts-syntax-assistant

Guides coding agents through ArkTS syntax, TypeScript migrations, and HarmonyOS build errors. It activates on .ets files, ArkTS keywords, and @ohos package imports.

## What it does

This skill guides an AI assistant through the strict static typing rules of ArkTS for OpenHarmony. ArkTS forbids dynamic object layouts, structural typing, and runtime type mutations. Code must declare explicit interfaces instead of ad-hoc object literals, use let or const instead of var, and avoid any or unknown types completely.

The guide includes specific translation recipes for TypeScript constructs. It replaces index signatures with Record types, intersection types with interface inheritance, and constructor parameter properties with explicit fields. The repository also provides build verification scripts (scripts/run.sh and scripts/run.ps1) that run ohpm install and hvigorw assembleApp. Generating ArkTS without running this compiler verification leads to broken builds because runtime reflection and Proxy handlers are prohibited.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant --skill arkts-syntax-assistant -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant --skill arkts-syntax-assistant -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant --skill arkts-syntax-assistant -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant arkts-syntax-assistant
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant --skill arkts-syntax-assistant -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/arkts-syntax-assistant/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant --skill arkts-syntax-assistant -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/SummerKaze/skill-arkts-syntax-assistant/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- migrate TypeScript code to ArkTS without dynamic object typing
- replace index signatures with Record types in .ets files
- resolve compiler errors in HarmonyOS and OpenHarmony applications
- validate generated code via hvigorw assembleApp and ohpm

## Example prompts
- Convert this TypeScript module with object literals into valid ArkTS for OpenHarmony.
- Fix the compile error on JSON.parse return typing in my .ets file.
- How do I replace globalThis and Proxy calls according to ArkTS rules?

# ArkTS Syntax Assistant

[中文文档](SKILL.zh.md)

---

## Overview

ArkTS is the default development language for OpenHarmony applications. It builds
upon TypeScript with enhanced static typing to improve program stability and
performance.

## Core Features

- **Static Typing**: All types determined at compile time, reducing runtime checks
- **No Dynamic Object Layout**: Object structure fixed at compile time, cannot be
  modified at runtime
- **Restricted Operators**: Some operator behaviors are restricted to encourage
  clearer code semantics
- **No Structural Typing**: Structural typing is currently not supported

## Workflows

### 1. Syntax Questions

```
User Question -> Identify Question Type -> Consult Documentation -> Provide Code Example
```

**Common Syntax Questions**:
- Variable declaration -> Use `let`/`const` with explicit type or inference
- Function definition -> Supports optional parameters, defaults, rest parameters,
  arrow functions
- Classes and interfaces -> Must initialize fields, supports inheritance and
  implementation
- Generics -> Supports constraints and default values
- Null safety -> Nullable types ((T | null)), non-null assertion ((!)), optional
  chaining ((?.))

### 2. TypeScript Migration

```
Identify TS Code -> Check Incompatible Features -> Consult Migration Rules -> Provide ArkTS Alternative
```

**Key Migration Rules Quick Reference**:

| TypeScript | ArkTS Alternative |
