## What it does

This skill provides embedded C++ patterns and CLI generators for microcontroller firmware. It includes nine example sketches covering ADC noise filtering via Kalman or median algorithms, I2C bus scanners, non-blocking schedulers running on `millis()`, and FAT32 SD logging.

Code generation uses the `scripts/generate_snippet.py` script via `uv run` in interactive mode or with explicit `--pattern` and `--board` flags. Automated compilation checks for UNO, ESP32, and RP2040 are handled by `verify_patterns.sh` and `verify_patterns.ps1`.

Selecting a board flag merely picks a template. It does not prove the sketch runs on similar hardware variants without checking pinouts, SRAM limits, and operating voltage beforehand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-code-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/arduino-code-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/arduino-code-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-code-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/arduino-code-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-code-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/arduino-code-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills arduino-code-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/arduino-code-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-code-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --path skills/arduino-code-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/arduino-code-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-code-generator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- Implement non-blocking task scheduling with `millis()` instead of `delay()`
- Add software button debouncing with long-press detection
- Filter ADC readings using moving average, median, or Kalman filters
- Save telemetry records to EEPROM with CRC checks or to SD storage

## Example prompts
- Generate non-blocking I2C code for a BME280 sensor on an ESP32
- Write an Arduino UNO sketch handling button clicks on pin D2 with debouncing
- Create an RP2040 state machine that logs sensor readings to EEPROM

# Arduino Code Generator

Generate production-quality Arduino code snippets for sensors, actuators, communication, and embedded patterns.

## Quick Start

**Browse example sketches:**
```bash
# See 9 production-ready examples in examples/ folder
ls examples/
# config-example.ino, filtering-example.ino, buttons-example.ino,
# i2c-example.ino, csv-example.ino, scheduler-example.ino,
# state-machine-example.ino, hardware-detection-example.ino,
# data-logging-example.ino
```

**List available patterns:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/generate_snippet.py --list
```

**Generate code for specific pattern and board:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/generate_snippet.py --pattern i2c --board esp32
uv run --no-project scripts/generate_snippet.py --pattern buttons --board uno --output button.ino
```

**Interactive mode:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/generate_snippet.py --interactive
```

## Target Gate

Read [the shared contract](../../docs/arduino-skill-contract.md) and the board
profile before selecting pins, APIs, or libraries. Keep board-specific branches
isolated, check memory and peripheral constraints, and state whether the result
has build proof only or also has upload, hardware, and system proof. The
generator's board flag is a template selector, not evidence that the generated
code works on a similar-looking board.
