## What it does

The skill hands your agent a reference for the Appwrite .NET SDK. It covers client setup with endpoint, project ID and API key, then walks through users, tables, file storage and functions. If you build server-side C# with ASP.NET or Blazor, this saves a lot of method hunting.

One section deals with `TablesDB`, the class that replaced `Databases`. The skill is blunt about it: use `TablesDB` for new code, keep `Databases` only where the codebase already depends on it. It also breaks down string column types — `varchar` lives inline and indexes fully, while `text`, `mediumtext` and `longtext` sit off-page and stay out of the row size budget.

Query methods get their own block: filters, sorting, cursor pagination, aggregations, grouping and joins, plus a `Query.Builder()` for chaining. Keep in mind the client needs an API key and project ID before any request reaches Appwrite.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appwrite/skills --skill appwrite-dotnet -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/appwrite-dotnet/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appwrite/skills --skill appwrite-dotnet -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appwrite/skills --skill appwrite-dotnet -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install appwrite/skills appwrite-dotnet
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appwrite/skills --skill appwrite-dotnet -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/appwrite/skills --path skills/appwrite-dotnet
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appwrite/skills --skill appwrite-dotnet -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/appwrite/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/appwrite-dotnet/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire Appwrite into an ASP.NET project written in C#
- create users and invite them through Teams
- migrate code from the deprecated `Databases` class to `TablesDB`
- pick a string column type for indexing or for large text
- build a query with filters, a join and an aggregation

## Example prompts
- Show me how to create a user with the Appwrite .NET SDK
- Rewrite this code from `Databases` to `TablesDB`
- Build a query with `Query.Builder()`: filter by status, join orders, count rows

# Appwrite .NET SDK

## Installation

```bash
dotnet add package Appwrite
```

## Setting Up the Client

```csharp
using Appwrite;
using Appwrite.Services;
using Appwrite.Models;
var client = new Client()
    .SetEndpoint("https://<REGION>.cloud.appwrite.io/v1")
    .SetProject(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("APPWRITE_PROJECT_ID"))
    .SetKey(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("APPWRITE_API_KEY"));
```

## Code Examples

### User Management

```csharp
var users = new Users(client);
// Create user
var user = await users.Create(ID.Unique(), "user@example.com", null, "password123", "User Name");
// List users
var list = await users.List(new List<string> { Query.Limit(25) });
// Get user
var fetched = await users.Get("[USER_ID]");
// Delete user
await users.Delete("[USER_ID]");
```

### Database Operations

> **Note:** Use `TablesDB` (not the deprecated `Databases` class) for all new code. Only use `Databases` if the existing codebase already relies on it or the user explicitly requests it.
>
> **Tip:** Prefer named arguments (e.g., `databaseId: "..."`) for all SDK method calls. Only use positional arguments if the existing codebase already uses them or the user explicitly requests it.

```csharp
var tablesDB = new TablesDB(client);
// Create database
var db = await tablesDB.Create(ID.Unique(), "My Database");
// Create row
var doc = await tablesDB.CreateRow("[DATABASE_ID]", "[TABLE_ID]", ID.Unique(),
    new Dictionary<string, object> { { "title", "Hello World" } });
// Query rows
var results = await tablesDB.ListRows("[DATABASE_ID]", "[TABLE_ID]",
    new List<string> { Query.Equal("title", "Hello World"), Query.Limit(10) });
// Get row
var row = await tablesDB.GetRow("[DATABASE_ID]", "[TABLE_ID]", "[ROW_ID]");
// Update row
await tablesDB.UpdateRow("[DATABASE_ID]", "[TABLE_ID]", "[ROW_ID]",
    new Dictionary<string, object> { { "title", "Updated" } });
// Delete row
await tablesDB.DeleteRow("[DATABASE_ID]", "[TABLE_ID]", "[ROW_ID]");
```

#### String Column Types

> **Note:** The legacy `string` type is deprecated. Use explicit column types for all new columns.

| Type | Max characters | Indexing | Storage |
|------|---------------|----------|---------|
| `varchar` | 16,383 | Full index (if size ≤ 768) | Inline in row |
| `text` | 16,383 | Prefix only | Off-page |
| `mediumtext` | 4,194,303 | Prefix only | Off-page |
| `longtext` | 1,073,741,823 | Prefix only | Off-page |

- `varchar` is stored inline and counts towards the 64 KB row size limit. Prefer for short, indexed fields like names, slugs, or identifiers.
