# apple-launch-film

Builds an Apple-style Mac launch film entirely in code: menu bar, notch, widgets and gradient wallpapers. Useful when you need a launch video without screen recording or After Effects.

## What it does

The skill draws every pixel of the Mac in code: a thin macOS menu bar, the black notch at the top centre growing into widgets one scene at a time, full-screen gradient wallpapers and one short caption under the notch. It all lives in a single HTML file with `window.seek(seconds)` that renders any exact frame, then exports to MP4.

Before you start, the skill asks you to read `brand.md` and `MOTION.md` if they exist. If they don't, run `brand-intake` first or supply hex codes, a font and a logo file. Without them you can't call the result on-brand. Then it waits for five things: the product name with its one line, a facts list, 6 to 8 scenes, an optional reference in a folder called `ref`, and size plus length. Defaults are 1920 x 1080, 30fps, about 2.5 seconds per scene.

Name the notch in words inside the brief. Given the same brief without that anchor, one model drew a whole laptop instead. Springs beat tweens, motion is worked out from the start of the film, and frames get compared side by side with the reference scene by scene. Keep the menu bar short — five items is plenty, because wide widgets cut a full menu in half. Export runs through HyperFrames: `npx skills add heygen-com/hyperframes`, then `npx hyperframes render`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill apple-launch-film -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/apple-launch-film/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill apple-launch-film -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill apple-launch-film -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install charlie947/motion-graphics-skills apple-launch-film
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill apple-launch-film -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --path skills/apple-launch-film
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills --skill apple-launch-film -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/charlie947/motion-graphics-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/apple-launch-film/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a product launch video without screen recording or After Effects
- make the Mac interface look like a real system on screen
- render any exact frame from a given second for review
- compare scenes against a reference film frame by frame
- add a reduced-motion setting that swaps springs for quick fades

## Example prompts
- Build an Apple-style launch film for our product, the notch growing into widgets one scene at a time
- Check the notch motion against the apple-design skill and fix what differs
- Make a vertical cut and hand the MP4 to reel-export

# Apple-style launch film, built in code

Every pixel of the Mac is drawn in code: the menu bar, the notch, the widgets and the wallpapers. One HTML file with `window.seek(seconds)`, exported to MP4.

**Before you start:** read `brand.md` and `MOTION.md` if they exist. If not, run `brand-intake` first, or ask for hex codes, a font and a logo file. Never call a result on-brand without them.

**Pairs with a free skill (not mine)** that turns Apple's design guidelines into rules Claude follows. Install it once:

```
npx skills add emilkowalski/skills --skill apple-design
```

## Step 1: Ask for five things, then wait

1. **The product name** and its one line, word for word.
2. **The facts list.** Every feature, number and requirement the film may show. Nothing else goes on screen.
3. **The scenes.** 6 to 8, each one feature plus one short caption. Example: "Your voice lives here."
4. **A reference** (optional): a real Mac launch film or frames of one, in a folder called `ref`. It sets the look only.
5. **Size and length.** Default 1920 x 1080, 30fps, about 2.5 seconds a scene.

## Step 2: Build brief (paste into Claude Code)

```
Use the apple-design skill. [If ref/ exists: Match the LOOK of the reference in ref/. Read every frame first. Do not copy its words or its product name.]
It is a launch film for [PRODUCT]: the black MacBook notch at the top centre grows into Apple-style widgets, one scene at a time. Each scene has its own full-screen colour-gradient wallpaper and one centred caption below the notch, with the last word or two tinted a lighter shade of the wallpaper colour. It opens with the notch expanded and the word "hello" handwritten in a white script line, like the Mac hello screen.
