## What it does

The skill scaffolds action code at `src/<extension-dir>/actions/<action-name>/index.js` and updates `src/<extension-dir>/ext.config.yaml`. It includes pre-built templates for standard endpoints, I/O Events webhook receivers, custom event providers, Journaling replay consumers, Asset Compute workers, and large payload redirects for responses exceeding 1 MB.

Local testing runs through `aio app dev` or `aio app run`, while direct invocations rely on `aio rt action invoke`. Placing a root-level `runtimeManifest` inside `app.config.yaml` causes the CLI to ignore it silently. This common misstep breaks deployments, so configurations must stay strictly within the extension-level YAML.

Prerequisites include Node.js 18+, the Adobe I/O CLI (`aio`), and Python 3 to validate manifests. When building Workfront extensions that require the `{ data, error }` contract, Adobe recommends switching to the dedicated `workfront-actions` skill instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill appbuilder-action-scaffolder -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill appbuilder-action-scaffolder -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill appbuilder-action-scaffolder -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install adobe/skills appbuilder-action-scaffolder
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill appbuilder-action-scaffolder -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/adobe/skills --path plugins/app-builder/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/appbuilder-action-scaffolder/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill appbuilder-action-scaffolder -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- scaffold an Adobe Runtime action with validated input parameters
- build an I/O Events webhook receiver with proper payload verification
- bypass the 1 MB runtime response limit using storage redirects
- configure cron actions for periodic external data synchronization

## Example prompts
- Create a web action that accepts file uploads and stores them using the Files SDK
- Add a webhook receiver action to handle asset update events
- How do I handle action payloads larger than 1MB in App Builder?

# App Builder Action Scaffolder

Full lifecycle skill for Adobe Runtime actions — scaffold, implement, deploy, and debug. Place action code at `src/<extension-dir>/actions/<action-name>/index.js` and register in `src/<extension-dir>/ext.config.yaml`.

> Building a **Workfront** extension? The Workfront-specific action layer — the `{ data, error }` response contract, IMS-token passthrough from the SPA, and Workfront's own Public API v21 — is in `workfront-actions`. Use this skill for generic action patterns, templates, and the App Builder SDKs.

## Pattern Quick-Reference

Pick the template that matches the user's intent. Default to `assets/action-boilerplate.js` for generic actions.

| User wants | Template |
| --- | --- |
| Simple action / generic starting point | assets/action-boilerplate.js |
| Minimal prototype (bare-bones) | assets/action-scaffold-template.js |
| Database CRUD (durable records, indexes) | assets/database-action-template.js |
| Webhook receiver (I/O Events) | assets/event-webhook-template.js |
| Custom event provider | assets/event-provider-template.js |
| Journaling consumer (replayable events) | assets/journaling-consumer-template.js |
| Large payload response (>1 MB) | assets/large-payload-template.js |
| Action sequence pipeline | assets/action-sequence-template.js |
| Asset Compute worker (AEM renditions) | assets/asset-compute-worker-template.js |
| Debug Runtime action issues | references/debugging.md |
