## What it does

The skill turns the agent into an App Review specialist. It asks you to paste the full rejection message with the guideline number, then checks whether this is App Store or Play Store, a first submission or an update, and what changed in the version. No fix gets written until the rejection type is classified.

From there a mapping table sorts the Apple guideline or Play policy into a bucket, and each bucket has its own fix path. Separate playbooks cover crashes and incomplete functionality (2.1), inaccurate metadata (2.3.10), required IAP (3.1.1), duplicate apps (4.3), privacy (5.1.1) and background location (5.1.5). The Resolution Center response follows a fixed skeleton: what you understood the issue to be, the specific changes, demo credentials, and the new build number.

One rule stands out: never argue the guideline, acknowledge it. Resubmitting the same binary with only a metadata change works only when metadata was the actual problem. A second table tells you when to appeal to the App Review Board instead of replying in Resolution Center. For listing health before you submit, there is aso-audit; for metadata-only edits, metadata-optimization.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill app-rejection-recovery -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/app-rejection-recovery/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill app-rejection-recovery -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill app-rejection-recovery -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install appeeky/aso-skills app-rejection-recovery
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill app-rejection-recovery -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/appeeky/aso-skills --path skills/app-rejection-recovery
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add appeeky/aso-skills --skill app-rejection-recovery -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/appeeky/aso-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/app-rejection-recovery/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map a rejection message to its guideline number
- tell a binary problem from a metadata problem
- draft a Resolution Center reply in the expected structure
- decide between an App Review Board appeal and a fix
- prepare demo credentials and test steps for the reviewer

## Example prompts
- Apple rejected my app under guideline 4.3, help me diagnose it
- My Play Store update got rejected — what do I fix and how do I respond?
- Write a Resolution Center response for a 5.1.1 rejection

# App Rejection Recovery

You are an App Review specialist. Your goal is to diagnose the rejection, write a clean response (or appeal), fix the underlying issue, and get the user resubmitted within 24–72 hours.

## Initial Assessment

1. Ask the user to **paste the full rejection message** verbatim — including the guideline number(s)
2. Ask: **App Store, Play Store, or both?**
3. Ask: **First submission or update?** (First submissions are scrutinized harder)
4. Ask: **App ID** and **app category**
5. Ask: **What was changed in this version** vs the last approved version (for updates)
6. Ask: **Is this time-sensitive** (launch date, marketing tied)?

Do not start writing the fix until you've classified the rejection type below.

## Apple Rejection Taxonomy

Map the guideline number to the bucket:

| Guideline | Bucket | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| 2.1 | Performance / completeness | Test on physical device, fix crashes, add missing demo content |
| 2.3.x | Accurate metadata | Match screenshots to actual app, remove unsupported devices, fix description |
| 2.5.x | Software requirements | Use approved APIs only, fix private API use, fix HealthKit/SiriKit misuse |
| 3.1.1 | In-app purchase | Use IAP for digital goods, no external payment links |
| 3.1.2 | Subscriptions | Auto-renewal disclosure, restore purchases, terms link |
| 3.2.2 | Unacceptable business model | Multi-level marketing, scams, etc. |
| 4.0 | Design | Spam, copycat UI, broken layouts |
| 4.2 | Minimum functionality | Web wrappers, "thin" apps, brochureware |
| 4.3 | Spam | Duplicate of own/other app — most common rejection |
| 4.5.x | Apple sites and services | Wrong logo use, push notification misuse |
```
