## What it does

This skill handles competitive intelligence: pricing comparison, customer reviews, hiring signals, SEO battles, SWOT and battlecards. Its core rule is blunt — never answer competitive questions from training knowledge alone, gather live data first and analyze after.

The setup is a registry of actors in `reference/actor-schemas.md`, one per data need: Google SERP, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, G2, Capterra, Glassdoor, Reddit, SimilarWeb, Amazon, Google Maps. Every call follows three steps: read the actor's schema, verify platform URLs and slugs, then run the actor. Results land in `/tmp/results.json` and get parsed with `jq` or `python3`. It runs on the Apify CLI or an Apify MCP server.

You need Apify CLI v1.5.0+ (`npm install -g apify-cli`) or a connected MCP server, plus an authenticated session via `apify login` or the `APIFY_TOKEN` environment variable. Without a token, commands fail with an auth error. Don't guess slugs — a wrong one quietly returns empty or wrong data, so the URL verification step is worth keeping.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add apify/awesome-skills --skill apify-easy-competitive-intelligence -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add apify/awesome-skills --skill apify-easy-competitive-intelligence -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add apify/awesome-skills --skill apify-easy-competitive-intelligence -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install apify/awesome-skills apify-easy-competitive-intelligence
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add apify/awesome-skills --skill apify-easy-competitive-intelligence -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/apify/awesome-skills --path skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add apify/awesome-skills --skill apify-easy-competitive-intelligence -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/apify/awesome-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull reviews about a competitor from G2, Capterra and Glassdoor into one file
- compare Amazon and Walmart prices across a product list
- spot hiring signals from LinkedIn job postings
- work out why customers switch to another vendor
- build a battlecard before a board meeting

## Example prompts
- analyze competitor Acme: pricing, reviews and job postings
- build a battlecard for three market players and show it as a table
- run a SWOT on this company and cite a source for every claim

# Competitive Intelligence

Real-time competitive intelligence powered by live web data via Apify actors. **Never answer competitive questions from training knowledge alone.** Always gather live data first, then analyze.

## Prerequisites

- Apify CLI v1.5.0+ (`npm install -g apify-cli`), or Apify MCP server
- Authenticated session (`apify login` or `APIFY_TOKEN` env var)

**CLI rules:** Always pass `--json`, `--user-agent apify-awesome-skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence`, and `2>/dev/null`.
- **Run actor:** `apify actors call "ACTOR_ID" -i 'INPUT' --user-agent apify-awesome-skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence --json 2>/dev/null` → returns run metadata with `defaultDatasetId`
- **Fetch results:** `apify datasets get-items DATASET_ID --user-agent apify-awesome-skills/apify-easy-competitive-intelligence --format json > /tmp/results.json 2>/dev/null` — save locally, parse from file:
  - Quick extraction: `jq '.[] | "\(.field1) | \(.field2)"' /tmp/results.json`
  - Aggregation: `python3 -c "import json; d=json.load(open('/tmp/results.json')); ..."`
  - Tabular: `--format csv > /tmp/results.csv` + `python3` with `csv.DictReader`
  - Flags: `--limit N`, `--offset N`, `--format json|jsonl|csv|xlsx|xml`
  - Output fields: `apify datasets info DATASET_ID --json | jq .fields`
```
