## What it does

This skill connects your coding agent to third-party APIs via the `@maton/cli` utility. Instead of exposing API tokens in prompts, the Maton gateway injects credentials for connected apps. Authentication runs through `maton login`, which stores refresh and access tokens securely in the OS credential store: Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, or Secret Service on Linux.

The agent uses high-level commands like `maton slack` or raw API routes via `maton api`. It can also deploy Python 3.12 serverless functions, manage event triggers, and set up local `--exec` handlers.

Using this skill requires an active internet connection and a Maton account. It cannot reach services without an existing Maton connection, and every write call, webhook handler, or new connection setup requires explicit manual confirmation.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --skill api-gateway -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/api-gateway/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --skill api-gateway -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --skill api-gateway -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install maton-ai/api-gateway-skill api-gateway
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --skill api-gateway -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --path providers/claude/plugin/skills/api-gateway
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add maton-ai/api-gateway-skill --skill api-gateway -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/maton-ai/api-gateway-skill/tree/HEAD/providers/claude/plugin/skills/api-gateway/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- query connected mailboxes and service channels without exposing raw secrets
- forward upstream API requests with automatic OAuth credential injection
- manage third-party app connections directly through the Maton CLI
- deploy and manage Python 3.12 serverless functions from source files

## Example prompts
- List active Slack connections using maton connection list slack
- Fetch messages from Gmail using maton api '/google-mail/gmail/v1/users/me/messages'
- Deploy the Python handler in main.py via maton function deploy

  Call third-party APIs through the Maton gateway, which injects the credential for an app the user has already connected.
  Use this skill when the user names a connected app and a concrete action in it - read a mailbox, query a CRM, file an issue, update a spreadsheet, run a query through a connected search or scraping provider.
  Every call goes to an app the user connected. It is not a general-purpose browser or network client, and it cannot reach a service with no Maton connection.
  It also manages event triggers, webhook destinations that forward event payloads to an external URL until deleted, and local `--exec` handlers that run a script per event - separate, high-risk capabilities beyond a normal API call.
  Default to read and list calls; every write, connection, trigger, destination, or handler needs explicit user confirmation.

# Maton API Gateway

Managed API routing for third-party apps, provided by [Maton](https://maton.ai).

## Installation

### NPM
```bash
npm install -g @maton/cli
```

### Homebrew
```bash
brew install maton-ai/cli/maton
```

## Authentication

```bash
maton login
```

Prints a login link. Open it in a browser and copy the verification code shown. Then run `maton login --code <CODE>` to finish signing in. Once complete, it creates a profile in config.toml (eg. $HOME/.config/maton/config.toml) and stores the access and refresh tokens in the operating system's credential store (Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, Secret Service on Linux), auto-renewed on expiry. The CLI reads them when it needs them.

### Verify

```bash
maton whoami --json
```

```json
{
  "authenticated": true,
  "profile_name": "alice@example.com",
  "auth_type": "oauth"
}
```

- If `authenticated` is `false`, stop and login again via `maton login`.
- If `auth_type` is `api_key`, it is recommended to login via `maton login` and avoid keeping a long-lived credential.

## Connections

### List Connections

```bash
maton connection list slack --status ACTIVE
```

```json
{
  "connections": [
    {
      "connection_id": "{connection_id}",
      "status": "ACTIVE",
      "creation_time": "2025-12-08T07:20:53.488460Z",
      "last_updated_time": "2026-01-31T20:03:32.593153Z",
      "url": "https://connect.maton.ai/?session_token=5e9...",
      "app": "slack",
      "method": "OAUTH2",
      "metadata": {}
    }
  ]
}
```

Refer to `maton connection list --help` for possible flags and values.
