## What it does

The skill guides the agent through a six-step documentation pipeline. It analyzes routes, parameters, and HTTP methods before assembling an OpenAPI 3.1.0 specification in YAML or JSON.

The generated output defines reusable data models, request validation constraints, and realistic payload examples alongside standard HTTP error codes. Once the specification is complete, you can host interactive documentation or initiate client library builds.

Because the skill relies on inspecting route signatures, undocumented handlers will yield sparse model definitions that require manual adjustment.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill api-docs-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/api-docs-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/api-docs-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill api-docs-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/api-docs-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill api-docs-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/api-docs-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills api-docs-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/api-docs-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill api-docs-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path backend/api-docs-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/api-docs-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill api-docs-generator -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- generate OpenAPI 3.1.0 specifications in YAML or JSON
- define request and response schemas for API routes
- add realistic payload examples and error responses
- prepare specifications for client SDK generation

## Example prompts
- Analyze the backend routes and create an openapi.yaml specification
- Document the CRUD endpoints for users with request and response schemas
- Generate interactive API documentation and prepare the client SDK build

# API Docs Generator

Create comprehensive API documentation with OpenAPI specifications and interactive documentation.

## Core Workflow

1. **Analyze API endpoints**: Review routes, methods, parameters
2. **Define OpenAPI spec**: Create specification in YAML/JSON
3. **Add schemas**: Define request/response models
4. **Include examples**: Add realistic example values
5. **Generate documentation**: Deploy interactive docs
6. **Create SDK**: Optional client library generation

## OpenAPI Specification Structure

```yaml
# openapi.yaml
openapi: 3.1.0
info:
  title: My API
  version: 1.0.0
  description: |
    API description with **Markdown** support.
    ## Authentication
