## What it does

The skill fixes the order of work: an optional preliminary search, a mandatory clarification with the user, then planning, gathering, analysis, synthesis and delivery. During analysis the agent loops back to gathering when it finds gaps. Search output, crawled pages and notes are written to local files, which become the evidence base for cross-checking claims.

Five reference files carry the instructions: `01-plan.md`, `02-gather.md`, `03-analyze.md`, `04-synthesize.md`, `05-deliver.md`. Everything runs through the `anycap` CLI. `anycap search --query` finds pages, `anycap search --prompt` returns an answer with citations, `anycap crawl` reads a page as Markdown, `anycap image generate` draws explanatory visuals, and `anycap drive upload` plus `anycap page deploy` ship the result. Diagrams in the report use mermaid syntax.

You need the `anycap` CLI installed and authenticated — `anycap status` confirms it — plus a local working directory for intermediate files. Skipping the clarification step is the usual failure: after it the agent runs autonomously and won't ask questions during gathering or analysis. If `anycap` isn't authenticated, nothing starts, so check that first.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anycap-ai/anycap --skill anycap-deepresearch -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/anycap-deepresearch/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anycap-ai/anycap --skill anycap-deepresearch -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anycap-ai/anycap --skill anycap-deepresearch -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anycap-ai/anycap anycap-deepresearch
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anycap-ai/anycap --skill anycap-deepresearch -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anycap-ai/anycap --path skills/anycap-deepresearch
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anycap-ai/anycap --skill anycap-deepresearch -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anycap-ai/anycap/tree/HEAD/skills/anycap-deepresearch/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a report on a topic from several independent sources
- compare two products or technologies against the same criteria
- run a literature review and spot gaps in the material
- map a market or a set of competitors into one document
- publish the finished report as a web page or store it in the cloud

## Example prompts
- Do deep research on local code models: plan, sources, fact-checking, report with citations
- Compare Postgres and SQLite for embedded storage and write it up as a report
- Run a literature review on caching for LLM inference and publish it with anycap page deploy

description: "Guide for conducting thorough, multi-source research and producing comprehensive, well-sourced reports. Powered by AnyCap -- the capability runtime that equips AI agents with web search (including AI Grounded citations), web crawl, image generation, cloud storage, and one-click web publishing through a single CLI. Use when the user asks for deep research, competitive analysis, market research, technical deep dive, literature review, technology comparison, or any task requiring multi-source information gathering and synthesis. Also use when users say \"investigate\", \"survey the landscape\", \"compare X vs Y\", \"state of the art\", \"write a report on\", \"look into\", \"find out about\", \"analyze the market\", or any inquiry that needs more than a single search. Trigger on mentions of research, analysis, investigation, comparison, report, survey, or deep dive."

# AnyCap Deep Research

> **Read this entire file before starting.** It defines the multi-source research workflow from planning through synthesis.

Conduct thorough, multi-source research on any topic. Gather information broadly, verify claims rigorously, and synthesize findings into a polished, well-sourced report.

**Think deeply. Search broadly. Verify everything. Deliver clearly.**

## Before You Start

**Read all five reference files before taking any action.** Understanding the full process prevents wasted effort and ensures thorough research.

1. Read this file (SKILL.md) for the overview and principles
2. Read each reference in order:
   - [01-plan.md](references/01-plan.md)
   - [02-gather.md](references/02-gather.md)
   - [03-analyze.md](references/03-analyze.md)
   - [04-synthesize.md](references/04-synthesize.md)
   - [05-deliver.md](references/05-deliver.md)
3. Then begin Phase 1: Plan

For detailed CLI command usage (flags, output formats, jq patterns), refer to the **anycap-cli** skill and its references.

## Prerequisites

- `anycap` CLI installed and authenticated (`anycap status` to verify)
- A local working directory for intermediate files

## When to Use This Skill

- Deep research, research report, deep dive on any topic
