# zoom-oauth

A reference skill for Zoom authentication: which grant type fits, which scopes to request, how tokens refresh. Useful when a Zoom API integration throws an OAuth error.

## What it does

The skill does not make API calls on its own. It is background material the agent pulls in after you have picked an auth workflow, and it fills in the exact flow, scope set and token behaviour. Four cases are covered: account authorization for server-to-server, authorization code for acting on behalf of users, device flow, and client credentials for chatbots. A terminology table maps grant types to the names people use in the wild — two-legged, three-legged, M2M, PKCE.

Token lifecycle and failure modes get their own sections. Access tokens last 1 hour. Server-to-server has no separate refresh flow, you just request a new token; authorization code flow refreshes with `grant_type=refresh_token`. Public clients such as mobile apps and SPAs use PKCE with `code_challenge` and `code_verifier`. Error codes 4700–4741 are documented, including 4709, 4733 and 4735, along with redirect URI mismatches.

You need a Zoom app in the Marketplace with its Client ID and Client Secret, plus an Account ID for server-to-server. Without those there is nothing to debug — the skill explains the scheme, but credentials are yours to create. Its own description suggests running `setup-zoom-oauth` first and keeping this one for the details.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill zoom-oauth -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill oauth -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/oauth/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/oauth/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill oauth -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/oauth/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill oauth -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/oauth/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins oauth
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/oauth/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill oauth -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --path partner-built/zoom-plugin/skills/oauth
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/oauth/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill oauth -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins/tree/HEAD/partner-built/zoom-plugin/skills/oauth/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick a grant type for backend automation with no user in the loop
- tell authorization code flow apart from device flow
- decide when PKCE is required and when a server can hold the secret
- trace the cause of Zoom error 4709, 4733 or 4735
- refresh an access token before the hour runs out

## Example prompts
- Which grant type should I use for a background service acting as my own Zoom account?
- Why does the token exchange return error 4735, and what should I check first?
- Does a mobile app need PKCE with Zoom, and how do I pass code_verifier?
