## What it does

The skill activates when the agent touches `**/*.java` files, the `android/**` directory or `**/build.gradle`. It carries a project layout split by layer: `data` with Room and Retrofit, `domain` with models and use cases, `ui` with screens grouped by feature, and a `di` package for Hilt or Dagger.

Then come code samples. A ViewModel built on `MutableLiveData` with loading and error states, a repository with its interface in domain and its implementation in data that reads the cache before hitting the network. The Activity example uses `ViewBinding` and nulls out `binding` in `onDestroy` — skip that and the Activity leaks. There is a Gradle block too: `compileSdk 34`, `minSdk 24`, Java 17, `viewBinding` enabled, plus JUnit, Mockito and Espresso dependencies.

You cannot invoke it yourself: the description sets `user-invocable: false`, so the agent picks it up by path match. That also means it stays out of the way in projects with no Android Java files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill android-java -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/android-java/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/android-java/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill android-java -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/android-java/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill android-java -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/android-java/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alinaqi/maggy android-java
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/android-java/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill android-java -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy --path skills/android-java
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/android-java/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill android-java -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy/tree/HEAD/skills/android-java/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- split an Android project into data, domain and ui layers
- write a LiveData ViewModel with loading and error states
- combine Room and Retrofit in one caching repository
- wire ViewBinding into an Activity and clean up in onDestroy
- set up build.gradle for Java 17 and Espresso

## Example prompts
- look at this Android project structure and suggest how to split the code into layers
- add a ViewModel for the profile screen with loading and error handling
- set up ViewBinding in MainActivity and fix the leak in onDestroy
