## What it does

This skill guides incident responders through Linux volatile memory analysis. It targets compromised Linux hosts. The workflow covers memory acquisition using the LiME kernel module in lime or raw format, followed by artifact parsing with Volatility 3.

The skill details core analysis plugins: `linux.pslist` paired with `linux.psscan` to reveal unlinked processes, `linux.bash` for recovering shell history, and `linux.sockstat` for identifying suspicious network activity. It includes commands for `linux.lsmod` and `linux.malfind` to detect kernel rootkits and injected code. It also provides a Python snippet using `volatility3.framework.contexts` for automated triage scripts.

You cannot capture memory without a LiME kernel module compiled specifically for the target Linux kernel version. Running the analysis also requires Python 3.8+ and authorized lab environment access.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-memory-forensics-with-lime-and-volatility -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- acquire Linux physical memory dumps using the LiME kernel module
- detect hidden processes by comparing linux.pslist and linux.psscan outputs
- recover executed bash command history directly from memory images
- audit loaded kernel modules for rootkits via linux.lsmod
- locate injected code in memory using the linux.malfind plugin

## Example prompts
- Show the command to acquire a Linux memory image using LiME
- Run Volatility 3 linux.malfind against memory.lime to inspect injected code
- Extract bash command history and network connections from /evidence/memory.lime

# Analyzing Memory Forensics with LiME and Volatility

## When to Use

- When investigating security incidents that require analyzing memory forensics with lime and volatility
- When building detection rules or threat hunting queries for this domain
- When SOC analysts need structured procedures for this analysis type
- When validating security monitoring coverage for related attack techniques

## Prerequisites

- Familiarity with security operations concepts and tools
- Access to a test or lab environment for safe execution
- Python 3.8+ with required dependencies installed
- Appropriate authorization for any testing activities

## Instructions

Acquire Linux memory using LiME kernel module, then analyze with Volatility 3
to extract forensic artifacts from the memory image.

```bash
# LiME acquisition
insmod lime-$(uname -r).ko "path=/evidence/memory.lime format=lime"
# Volatility 3 analysis
vol3 -f /evidence/memory.lime linux.pslist
vol3 -f /evidence/memory.lime linux.bash
vol3 -f /evidence/memory.lime linux.sockstat
```

```python
import volatility3
from volatility3.framework import contexts, automagic
from volatility3.plugins.linux import pslist, bash, sockstat
# Programmatic Volatility 3 usage
context = contexts.Context()
