## What it does

The skill walks an indicator through a fixed order. First it normalizes and classifies each IOC: private RFC 1918 addresses get skipped, domains and URLs get defanged for safe handling, file hashes get typed by MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256. Then comes enrichment from several sources at once.

VirusTotal covers hashes, URLs, IPs and domains. AbuseIPDB handles IP reputation, MalwareBazaar checks hashes against known malware families, MISP searches for matching campaign events, and Shodan adds hosting context so you can tell bulletproof hosting from a legitimate cloud provider. Ready-made Python snippets sit inside: `vt-py` for VirusTotal, `requests` for AbuseIPDB and MalwareBazaar, `pymisp` for MISP. You need API keys for VirusTotal and AbuseIPDB, plus a MISP instance or TIP to cross-reference.

Disposition follows a tiered framework: high confidence means block, medium means monitor, low means investigate or whitelist. The author is explicit that this should not run alone on high-stakes blocking calls — shared infrastructure like CDNs and cloud providers produces false positives, so automated enrichment needs an analyst on top.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-indicators-of-compromise -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-indicators-of-compromise -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-indicators-of-compromise -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills analyzing-indicators-of-compromise
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-indicators-of-compromise -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-indicators-of-compromise -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/analyzing-indicators-of-compromise/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- triage a batch of IOCs pulled from a phishing email
- score an IP or domain before adding it to a blocklist
- check a file hash against MalwareBazaar for a malware family
- link an indicator to a known campaign through MISP
- filter out false positives on CDN and cloud provider IPs

## Example prompts
- Triage these IOCs from the phishing email: domain, URL and attachment hash — block or monitor?
- Check IP 1.2.3.4 against AbuseIPDB and Shodan: bulletproof hosting or a normal cloud provider?
- Search MISP for events matching this domain and tell me which campaign it belongs to

# Analyzing Indicators of Compromise

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
- A phishing email or alert generates IOCs (URLs, IP addresses, file hashes) requiring rapid triage
- Automated feeds deliver bulk IOCs that need confidence scoring before ingestion into blocking controls
- An incident investigation requires contextual enrichment of observed network artifacts

**Do not use** this skill in isolation for high-stakes blocking decisions — always combine automated enrichment with analyst judgment, especially for shared infrastructure (CDNs, cloud providers).
