## What it does

This skill guides the analysis of Chromium browser databases using Hindsight across Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. It extracts web history, keyword searches, cookies, autofill records, and download logs. Results are consolidated into a chronological timeline exported as XLSX, JSON, or SQLite.

The skill covers profile paths for Windows, macOS, and Linux alongside database schemas for tables like `urls`, `visits`, and `downloads`. It provides commands for `hindsight.exe`, the `hindsight_gui.exe` web interface, and a standalone Python script to query the `History` database directly with WebKit timestamp conversion.

Running the tool requires Python 3.8+ with the `pyhindsight` package installed. Keep in mind that profiles protected by OS-level encryption will fail to parse, so images must provide unencrypted profile directories.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill analyzing-browser-forensics-with-hindsight -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- reconstruct web browsing activity into a single timeline
- extract download history and search queries from the History database
- parse HTTP cookies and Local Storage records during incident response
- convert WebKit microsecond timestamps into standard datetime formats

## Example prompts
- Use Hindsight to parse the Chrome profile at C:\Evidence\Chrome\Default and generate a JSON report.
- Run the Python history analysis script from this skill against the suspect's browser profile.
- Show me the hindsight.exe command to analyze an Edge profile with cache parsing enabled.

# Analyzing Browser Forensics with Hindsight

## Overview

Hindsight is an open-source browser forensics tool designed to parse artifacts from Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers (Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi). It extracts and correlates data from multiple browser database files to create a unified timeline of web activity. Hindsight can parse URLs, download history, cache records, bookmarks, autofill records, saved passwords, preferences, browser extensions, HTTP cookies, Local Storage (HTML5 cookies), login data, and session/tab information. The tool produces chronological timelines in multiple output formats (XLSX, JSON, SQLite) that enable investigators to reconstruct user web activity for incident response, insider threat investigations, and criminal cases.

## When to Use

- When investigating security incidents that require analyzing browser forensics with hindsight
- When building detection rules or threat hunting queries for this domain
- When SOC analysts need structured procedures for this analysis type
- When validating security monitoring coverage for related attack techniques

## Prerequisites

- Python 3.8+ with Hindsight installed (`pip install pyhindsight`)
