## What it does

This skill teaches agents how to connect to the managed Agent Access MCP server over Streamable HTTP with SigV4 signing. No AWS CLI or SDK command invokes the desktop actions directly. The agent drives the remote Windows interface exclusively through MCP tools like `screenshot` and `left_click`. AWS CLI commands remain strictly for setup, such as creating streaming URLs or configuring stacks.

The recommended transport is `mcp-proxy-for-aws` in Python. It handles SigV4 request signing and manages HTTP DELETE session teardown. The connection mode is passed via the `X-Amzn-AgentAccess-Connect-Mode` header, using either `BLOCKING` or `POLLING`. It is not a tool parameter. In `POLLING` mode, the agent receives only `connection_status` until the session reports `CONNECTED`. Only then does the full desktop toolset appear.

Signing region must match the fleet region. Mismatched regions trigger a 400 error. In the stack's `AgentAccessConfig`, enabling `COMPUTER_INPUT` also requires `COMPUTER_VISION`. The guidance does not apply to Amazon WorkSpaces Personal or standard fleet management.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill amazon-workspaces-agent-access -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill amazon-workspaces-agent-access -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill amazon-workspaces-agent-access -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws amazon-workspaces-agent-access
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill amazon-workspaces-agent-access -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --path skills/specialized-skills/end-user-computing-skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/amazon-workspaces-agent-access/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill amazon-workspaces-agent-access -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- connect AI agents to remote AppStream 2.0 desktops through MCP
- sign streaming requests with SigV4 using mcp-proxy-for-aws
- poll connection_status during POLLING connection mode until the desktop is ready
- format forwarded tool names with the required forwarded___<server-name>___<tool-name> prefix

## Example prompts
- Configure mcp-proxy-for-aws to connect to AppStream in us-east-1 with SigV4 signing
- Show the correct HTTP headers for POLLING mode and how to wait for the CONNECTED state
- Debug why AgentAccessConfig failed when enabling COMPUTER_INPUT on my WorkSpaces stack

description: Connects AI agents to remote Windows desktop applications on Amazon WorkSpaces Applications (AppStream 2.0) through the managed Agent Access MCP server, and guides reliable desktop automation. Covers connecting an agent to the MCP endpoint (SigV4, streaming URL, and Active Directory SAML/Domain Join), BLOCKING vs POLLING connect modes, the computer-use tools (screenshot, click, type, key, scroll), screenshot-budget and action-batching discipline, MCP tool forwarding (forwarded___ tools), session lifecycle and expire-on-delete, and troubleshooting connection errors. Use when building or debugging an agent that drives a remote Windows desktop or GUI application via WorkSpaces Applications / AppStream — including "dcv session not ready", "client_disconnected", 400 signing-region, POLLING/connection_status, SAML assertion, or forwarded tool questions. Not for Amazon WorkSpaces Personal/Core virtual desktops or general AppStream fleet administration unrelated to agent access.

# Amazon WorkSpaces Applications — Agent Access

Domain expertise for connecting AI agents to remote Windows desktops on Amazon WorkSpaces Applications (AppStream 2.0) via the managed **Agent Access MCP server**, and for driving those desktops reliably.

**How it works:** Agent Access is **MCP-only** — there is no AWS CLI/SDK command that calls the desktop tools. Agents connect to `https://agentaccess-mcp.{region}.api.aws/mcp` over Streamable HTTP, SigV4-signed with service name `agentaccess-mcp`, and call MCP tools (`screenshot`, `left_click`, `type_text`, ...) to drive the desktop. The AWS CLI/SDK is used only for *setup* — `appstream create-streaming-url`, fleet/stack configuration. `mcp-proxy-for-aws` handles the SigV4 signing.
