## What it does

The skill executes code reviews via `/code-review` before changes get committed or deployed. Before running any model, it triggers the mandatory ADR Gate. This step inspects `docs/adr/` and git history for matching architecture decision records. Minor updates skip the gate entirely. If architectural records are missing, the skill drafts an ADR or halts the review in strict mode.

Reviews run on Claude by default, but you can route them to OpenAI Codex CLI or Google Gemini CLI. Multi-engine mode compares outputs across models and flags unanimous findings. Using external engines requires installing `@openai/codex` or `@google/gemini-cli` globally. Missing CLI tools or API credentials will break the external review run immediately.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill code-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/code-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/code-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill code-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/code-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill code-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/code-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alinaqi/maggy code-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/code-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill code-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy --path skills/code-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/code-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill code-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy/tree/HEAD/skills/code-review/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- verify code alignment with documented architecture decisions
- detect critical security flaws and bugs before commits
- compare review findings across multiple AI engines simultaneously
- generate draft ADRs automatically for non-trivial changes

## Example prompts
- /code-review
- /code-review --engine codex
- /code-review --all

# Code Review Skill

**Purpose:** Enforce automated code reviews as a mandatory guardrail before every commit and deployment. Choose between Claude, OpenAI Codex, Google Gemini, or multiple engines for comprehensive analysis.

**Sub-skills:**
- [adr-gate.md](./adr-gate.md) — Pre-review ADR and spec enforcement

---

## Pre-Review: ADR Gate (Mandatory)

Before any review engine runs, the ADR gate executes automatically:

1. **Classify** — trivial changes (typos, deps, tests-only) skip the gate
2. **Discover** — scan `docs/adr/`, `_project_specs/`, iCPG ReasonNodes, git history for linked ADRs and specs
3. **Enforce** — if no ADRs found for non-trivial changes:
   - **Interactive** (default): draft ADR from git history, ask user to confirm
   - **Unattended** (CI): write as `Status: proposed`, proceed
   - **Strict**: block review until ADR exists
4. **Inject** — feed discovered ADRs + specs into the review prompt as architectural context

### ADR Compliance Review Dimension

Added to the standard 7 review categories:

| Category | What It Checks |
|----------|----------------|
| **ADR Compliance** | Change conforms to documented decisions, no undocumented architectural shifts |

| Finding | Severity |
|---------|----------|
| Change contradicts accepted ADR | Critical |
| Architectural decision not in any ADR | High |
| ADR exists but is outdated/stale | Medium |
| Minor drift from ADR intent | Low |

See [adr-gate.md](./adr-gate.md) for full protocol, reverse-engineering rules, and configuration.
