## What it does

The skill activates on `wrangler.toml`, worker source files, or a `d1` directory. It carries working examples: creating a database with `npx wrangler d1 create`, wiring the `[[d1_databases]]` block, generating env types via `npx wrangler types`.

Schema lives in Drizzle — tables, foreign keys, `$inferSelect` type exports. Migrations come from `drizzle-kit generate`, then `npx wrangler d1 migrations apply my-database --local` or `--remote`, with a `--dry-run` pass before touching production. The client is a one-liner: `drizzle(d1, { schema })`.

\`drizzle.config.ts` reads `CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID`, `CLOUDFLARE_DATABASE_ID` and `CLOUDFLARE_D1_TOKEN` from the environment. Miss those and Drizzle Kit can't reach a remote database. Hono shows up in the examples as the web framework, marked optional, so a plain Worker setup still fits.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill cloudflare-d1 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cloudflare-d1/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill cloudflare-d1 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill cloudflare-d1 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alinaqi/maggy cloudflare-d1
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill cloudflare-d1 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy --path skills/cloudflare-d1
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill cloudflare-d1 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy/tree/HEAD/skills/cloudflare-d1/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a D1 database and bind it in `wrangler.toml`
- define tables in Drizzle and get insert/select types
- generate a migration and apply it locally
- push migrations to the remote database safely
- stand up CRUD routes in a Hono worker

## Example prompts
- add a comments table to the Drizzle schema and generate a migration
- apply migrations to the local my-database
- write a create-user route in the Hono worker

# Cloudflare D1 Skill

Cloudflare D1 is a serverless SQLite database designed for Cloudflare Workers with global distribution and zero cold starts.

**Sources:** [D1 Docs](https://developers.cloudflare.com/d1/) | [Drizzle + D1](https://orm.drizzle.team/docs/connect-cloudflare-d1) | [Wrangler CLI](https://developers.cloudflare.com/workers/wrangler/)

---

## Core Principle

**SQLite at the edge, migrations in version control, Drizzle for type safety.**

D1 brings SQLite's simplicity to serverless. Design for horizontal scale (multiple small databases) rather than vertical (one large database). Use Drizzle ORM for type-safe queries and migrations.

---

## D1 Stack

| Component | Purpose |
|-----------|---------|
| **D1** | Serverless SQLite database |
| **Workers** | Edge runtime for your application |
| **Wrangler** | CLI for development and deployment |
| **Drizzle ORM** | Type-safe ORM with migrations |
| **Drizzle Kit** | Migration tooling |
| **Hono** | Lightweight web framework (optional) |

---

## Project Setup

### Create Worker Project
```bash
# Create new project
npm create cloudflare@latest my-app -- --template "worker-typescript"
cd my-app
# Install dependencies
npm install drizzle-orm
npm install -D drizzle-kit
```

### Create D1 Database
```bash
# Create database (creates both local and remote)
npx wrangler d1 create my-database
# Output:
# [[d1_databases]]
# binding = "DB"
# database_name = "my-database"
# database_id = "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"
```

### Configure wrangler.toml
```toml
name = "my-app"
main = "src/index.ts"
compatibility_date = "2024-01-01"
[[d1_databases]]
binding = "DB"
database_name = "my-database"
database_id = "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"
migrations_dir = "drizzle"
migrations_table = "drizzle_migrations"
```

### Generate TypeScript Types
```bash
# Generate env types from wrangler.toml
npx wrangler types
# Creates worker-configuration.d.ts:
# interface Env {
#   DB: D1Database;
# }
```

---

## Drizzle ORM Setup

### Schema Definition
```typescript
// src/db/schema.ts
import { sqliteTable, text, integer, real, blob } from 'drizzle-orm/sqlite-core';
import { sql } from 'drizzle-orm';
export const users = sqliteTable('users', {
  id: integer('id').primaryKey({ autoIncrement: true }),
  email: text('email').notNull().unique(),
  name: text('name').notNull(),
  role: text('role', { enum: ['user', 'admin'] }).default('user'),
  createdAt: text('created_at').default(sql`CURRENT_TIMESTAMP`),
  updatedAt: text('updated_at').default(sql`CURRENT_TIMESTAMP`)
});
export const posts = sqliteTable('posts', {
  id: integer('id').primaryKey({ autoIncrement: true }),
  title: text('title').notNull(),
  content: text('content'),
  authorId: integer('author_id').references(() => users.id),
````
